New 340 block bored to 410 with 450 hp from Mopar
« on: May 01, 2007 - 06:25:41 AM »
I would love to get this new block and six pack setup from Mopar. The 410 magnum 6 pack setup using the 340 block or the 440 super commando 540 hp. Either one would go so wonderfully in my car. I hope Mopar can keep coming out with this type of stuff.

I'd liek to see some of thier products get any more than a mediocre reputation. Those new blocks are not all made alike. Hence the "Mopar recommends any of these blocks be sonic inspected if they are intended to exceed the 'as-delivered' bore sizing." What that means is, the quality of the castings isnt real good. Many cannot be bored to what they are advertised to. And in several cases, can't go any bigger than the stock delivered size. Nevermind the terrible machine work. It's frustrating. Also, I can gaurantee they do not sonic test a single block used in the crate engine program. "thermally cycled" translates into "used stock block". :misbehaving:

I agree, the research I did on Mopar Hemis left a lot to be desired. Of course Mopar pamphlets, advertising and what-not would lead you to believe it's the work of God, unfortuantely in the real world it seems not. Not all blocks are bad, there would be plenty of good blocks but I think until they sort out the issues it's basically a lucky dip.

I think Chryco is having some issues with a Mopar 360ci crate, not the engine but refunds and warranty help. I was told when buying a Hemi that if I did get one over the counter to have it stripped checked and double checked then reassembled. But, I will be having mine professional built using the best parts available by Tim Banning from FHO.

:2cents: Best of luck.

That sucks if quality is not a priority. You might as well get an old block and have a engine builder set it up your way. I hope that reputation changes. And I was getting so excited. When you start spending the big bucks you certainly don't want to be plagued by warranty and quality issues.

Excitement is great. But usually it gets tempered with reality. Reality is, you may have issues. Then again, you may not. I dont consider a four figure price worth a gamble.
