My understanding is a full manual tranny requires a torque converter with a stainless snout due to the stress on the converter? Is this correct?

Hey tactransman, what would you suggest when going through a big block 727. It came out of a 72 station wagon with a 400. It runs fine and gives no trouble but I want to make sure it is fresh when I put it back in the car. The engine will either be a 440 pump gas, closed chamber iron head engine or a 451-496 stroker. I have the 72 or a 68 440 to choose for the build and I have not made up my mind which way to go on the engine. Most likely will have in the area of 500 horses though. I figure the basics will be clutches, bands and such but I am wondering if i need to upgrade other stuff while I am in there. Thanks for any advice  :worshippy

Stock rebuild kit,Transgo kit ,3.8 lever.billet rear servo, make sure you have 4 clutches in the direct drum (not three) and a Kevlar intermediate band should do it.

No problem guys. Just wondering because it doesn't look very difficult to convert a 727 to full manual. Just the price of a stainless converter is very cost prohibitive. If its not needed thne maybe its in the horizon some day. Cool

intermediate arm ratio is another. You want a 3.8 arm ratio

Have you used or see any reason for someone to use a 5.0 arm ratio in an automatic 727tf? I got handed one and was told that thats all they use in their transmission.

IM USING THE 5.0 ARM IN MY BB727 , WHY USE THE THE 3.8 ARM , IS IT BETTER??ALSO BROKE THE SERVO LOW REVERSE SERVO PISTON RETAINER AND CIRCLIP. ARE THERE ANY STRONGER RETAINERS MADE?
T/A AND R/T............... IM GREEDY.

5.0 lever causes BIG 2-3 shift over lap. 4.2 is best but is harder to come by.

Can you explain further? Would this cause some over rev in rpm or shorten the life of my 727?

It can cause a momentary bind up during the 2-3 shift unless the transmission is built internally for the 5.0 lever. It doesn't hurt too much,it effects the quickness of the 2-3 shift process which is usually felt. You can actually feel the car hold back for an instant during the 2-3 shift.
