Even though I'm from WI and respect the whole creation of Harleys, I'd say look into either Honda's cruisers or Yamaha's Star motorcycle line for their cruisers.  I know Star Motorcycles can get somewhat pricey, but they look good and sound great. (as does Honda's VTX)  Granted this is coming from someone who prefers sport bikes like CBR's, GSX-R's, and YZR's.

I am a salesman
The reasons i went with the vtx were many. For 11k and a brand new bike,i would pay twice that for an equivelent Harley or a 10 year old one.Honda reliability was a BIG reason, the Looks of the VTX,Biggest CC engine out there, fuel injection and all the other extras.

I was just afraid that your situation was going to be similiar to a friend of mines. You know the story. He has been watching all of them motorcycle builder shows and then wanted a chopper. At his age yes he could afford a real nice one, but had never really ridden a bike in his life. Although, he went out and bought one for around 30K with no idea of how to handle it and dropped it twenty times. I am afraid that he is going to end up hurting himself bad. With no prior experience he should have started out with something alot smaller and worked his self up. Thats why if your answer was anything less than like 2 years I was going to suggest something a lot smaller. That being resolved - Great decision.

thanks for your concern.I do have to tell you i am MUCH more cautious than when i was in my twenties.I had a Kawasaki 500 2 stroke Mach 1 and then a Mach 2 750,then a couple of enduros and my last was a V65 magna 8 years ago.I am going to take it slow and probably take a rinding class to refresh myself.I would never drive in a situation like LA traffic. Those guys are nuts out there weaving in and out of traffic.I just got back with my new bike at 9:30 last night. This is a BIG bike and gonna take some getting used to....slowly.Here are some pics
