Hemi valve cover question???
« on: May 05, 2007 - 06:13:15 PM »
Well it's finally warming up enough in SE Wis. to go play in the garage. I have never owned a Hemi car before so pardon  if ths is a dumb a$$ question. Are there seals on the bottom of the sleeves in the valve coverbetween the valve cover and the cyl. head???? I thought I'd pull the plugs  just to clean/check from last summer and some of them had alot of oil on them.

Also last year I was getting some oil from the breather/fill caps in the covers. Valve seals??  I've never had the covers off (yet).  :feedback:  :1zhelp: Thanks!

there are seals [o rings] between the tube & cover , the spark plug Should seal the bottom but there can be O rings there too

Thanks Chryco, I figured they had seals between the cover and the tubes (no oil on top of the covers by the tubes)but a few of the plugs had alot of oil. Is this something that happens ((seals on bottom of the tubes) on the "crate" Hemi's?? It's an '01  :dunno:

CP is correct--no O rings at the bottom of the spark plugs tubes.   What kind of valve covers are you running?  Most valve covers either don't have baffles under the oil breather caps or have had them removed.  When you play with the throttle and there are no vent baffles, oil gets slung everywhere under the valve cover, including into the oil breather caps.  This is prolly what is causing your breather cap oil problems.  You are not alone, nearly every hemi car I have ever owned does that.  Wipe off the valve covers and keep on slammin' the gas pedal.....    :burnout:    :cooldancing:
