Goodyear Eagle ST Tires..Any Ideas?
« on: May 05, 2007 - 09:22:37 PM »
I have (or had) a set of 4 Goodyear Eagle ST P245/60/R14's. Ran over something...cut into sidewall...and looking for a new tire--or a set. Here's the deal: I purchased a '72 Challenger at an estate sale in Nov. 2005, one owner 48k car, and the other 3 Goodyears still look new...until I saw a DOT stamp and next to it a code of 0272. Build date on the Challenger is 3-72. Are these tires 35 years old?...If so, safe to say a new set is needed. Are these STs being reproduced anywhere? They look great--always got comments---but the local Goodyear people say they've gone out of production. Any NOS sources that don't cost a 401k?

Thanks In Advance, Mike

I talked to a local goodyear dealer a couple of year ago about Eagle STs.  According to the store manager, Goodyear no longer makes the Eagle STs but you can get them from another company licensed through Goodyear.  The catch is the tires cost about $200 each.

They are not that old.Goodyear ST`s were made ~80`s-90`s I`m guessing. You might get lucky and find some decent used ones for cheap.

Have your tried Coker Tire ?(may have spelled it wrong). We run into this at the shop sometimes. Someone needs one tire thats been out of production for years. Sometimes you just have to make a change... good luck!

I have a 3 stashed away that are in good shape with tread on them. I have to leave today for a business trip across the country and I return on Wednesday. The soonest I can look at them again is Saturday.

E-mail me on Wednesday and I will take pics of them and send to you.

Erm, Hi...  Jeff here, current store manager for Goodyear Tire & Rubber company in Camp Hill, PA.

Yea Eagle ST's are long gone, but might I suggest some tires that DON'T suck, like, Firestones?  Lol - sorry I don't really like my job anymore.

Yes, Goodyear is phasing out the tires that people actually want, and replacing them with high-price, low-quality tires that cost an arm and a leg and need replaced every year.  I've sold Eagle RS-A's for over $200 a piece - I barely got 30K miles out of my own set!  Ridiculous...

Of course I realize these were factory tires, which is why I'd recommend Year One, Coker, or luck on the internet.  I don't think they are available through any other company - at least not with the name "Goodyear" on the side.

As alternatives, I'd try BF Goodrich's, or Kelly Chargers (which can be purchased at most Goodyear locations, and are actually pretty affordable.)

As soon as I turn in my two-weeks notice, I'll tell you the rest about Goodyear...

On topic but a question for myself......  ::)

Does anyone know a brand of good tire that makes a trye of 315/40 (or 45)?
I'm looking for a tire height of 28" minimum and 28.5" max. Can't stand 25" height, looks too fat.

I don't even know that Goodyear was making Eagles back then...  I might be wrong though...
