727 gurus...help please!

Hurt my trans this weekend...think combo of being low on fluid and beating on it a little caused me to lose second gear...It just shifts from 1st to 3rd in Drive and won't manually shift into second....just revs like in neutral. What have I done and what does it need to fix?

Also...if I need rebuild, what would you recommend for my combo (sig below)? I would like very firm shifts. Do I need to put heavier components in for a near 500 HP motor?

That happened to me coming back from Carlisle the other year. I broke the band in 2nd gear and it tore up the drum too. I have no idea what to recommend. I let my friend Rick rebuild it. He's worked for Dodge for many years and is great on trannys. One of the best around. IMO And his prices are great.

You can drop the pan and look ,the strut might have broken or fallen out.Otherwise O.H. it with good kevlar bands .a HD intermediate band strut,3.8 ratio lever,billet rear servo,Mopar deep pan and a Transgo shift kit.

Make sure that Kickdown is adjusted properly too! :2thumbs:

Hey thanks...I'll drop it out and take a look.  Is this all I need to add...want to half way know what I'm talking about when I take to shop.  Is there a particular stage of shift kit that Transgo makes?  I here Turbo Action is good as well?

Transgo TF-2 . I like Transgo because they take care of other issues with their kits as well and not just "make it shift hard" :2thumbs:

By the time I get all this heavy duty stuff for the trans to beef it up...wouldn't I just be better off buying one from Cope or a reputable builder?  I think Copes are 1350 or so.  Won't I have just about that in a re-build?

If he likes hard shifts Terry, wouldn't a TF-3 kit be the way to go?
IMO you're better off rebuilding. Why pay extra for a case etc when yours is fine.

Get the Trans-Go TF2 (or 3), Mopar deep pan etc and save yourself some serious cash. :thumbsup:

You should be able to get one built with those parts for alot less than $1350. That would run you around $600 to $700 bucks here at my shop  (shipping is the killer!)

TF-3 is a manual valvebody kit. If you want a manual V.B. then I would recommend J.V.X. for a forward pattern or a C.R.T. reverse pattern. BOTH ARE LOW BAND APPLY! :grinyes:

Just to add... By playing with the kick-down linkage, you can make it shift as hard or as soft as you'd like.

Last time I played with linkage it shifted harder all right...but I'm thinking its because I had to rev it up to 4000 rpm before it shifted.   :burnout:  :nono:

Tell me about it....I took in a TH-350 to my shop...which was running but I wanted it looked over and made sure it would hold up to my mildly built Buick 350.....cost me 950.00 with no special parts...and I put in the shift kit!  :hyper:
