Mopar HD Springs

I have heard mixed reviews on the mopar performance HD springs that are sold for abour 100 each.  Some people have said they are good others say they sag.  They say in the add they are for 440 and hemi cars so how will that be in a small block car?  Also I do not want a high rake so how high do they make a car sit in the rear.  Your opinions will be greatly appreciated.

I've heard they sag.  Mine sit pretty good so far.  They don't really give any noticable lift.

they probably end up sitting about stock height but they do drop over 2" from when they are first installled so if you like the stance when you install them you probably won`t after a couple of weeks

My only experience was when I took my original 318 springs off and put the HD springs on, and my rear dropped atleast an inch.  My father and I took both sets of springs and made a custom set that looks good.

Your choice, but I would stay away from the Mopar set.

2 weeks ago I added a new second leaf , full length , to a customers Chall that had sagged to the point where the tire were rubbing inside the rear wheel tub , the leafs are not a year old & were the Mopar Hd E body leaf

Now when you say they sit at stock hieght is that after or before they droop the 2 inches.  Also if anybody is sitting in the back will the car sag big time?

it probably sags to stock height depending what stock height is / was before  35 years went by , it started with the top of a 295/50/15 just even with the wheel lip on the fender & was covering 1/2 the sideway a few weeks later , we raised it back up to where the top of the tire is just hidden

The two pic of my car are taken 2.5 months apart.  I don't/didn't notice much sag.  Maybe I got a good set. :dunno:

I'd conceed that it may be hit or miss proposition with MP springs, but I think most of it is perception. Of all the complaints I've seen over the last ten years, only one actually had a set that had misaligned leaves adn as a resutl ended up with a bent main leaf. All the others said they were not happy with stance. I 've sold about a dozen sets to customs and so long as they all understood going into the purchase that these springs are desigend to control torque and not lift the car, I've only ever had one complaint. That complaint boiled down to someone who forgot to reset their pinion snubber after changing the springs. I've installed two sets on my brother's cars and three sets on my cars. I've not had any trouble with them at all. However, if they were bad and sat low from the begining, I didn't notice since I tend to drop all my cars down a considerable amount and typically will still use hangers and sliders to drop beyond stock.

mine sagged immediatly after installation and i still have them in the car and everytime i look at it they annoy me

I went with the MP leafs and they seem to ride as low or lower then the 30 year old springs I replaced....dont know if I will go with adjustable shackels, air shocks or ESOP springs....I should not have to redo it... :banghead:

I was really considering these springs.  I went and got air shocks the other day, now no need for the HD springs.  I would suggest some $60 air shocks before you spend $200 or so bucks just to get some rake.  For handling I would think they would be necessary, but I just drive to town and back.   :lol2:

the first 2 options will not work adjustable shackles only push the spring down & will not raise the car , air shocks will damage the shock crossmember over time

I thought about that too, but the little bit I drive, it wont hurt it too bad.   :dunno:

I bought the HD Mopar performance springs 2 years ago to replace my flat as a pancake stock  Hemi springs.  I was hoping to get rid of my air shocks.  I put on the new springs and 2 years later, I still have my air shocks on.  It helps me adjust the stance when I think the rear is too low.  Without air in the shocks, it's too low.  Go with the Espo springs that others use here and get the 1" over stock height.   

My car has had air shocks on it almost it's entire life.  When I bought it in 1980, it had '70's style N50s and Super wide aluminum slot wheels, the air shocks were maxed out so the car's rear fenders would not rub on top of the tire tread. I quickly got rid of those and put on the right offset wheels and still have those same air shocks on the car now after 27 years.  My upper shock cross member is still okay, but it only lifts my car a few inches.
