Do you mean the nose that goes into the "pilot hole"on the tranny bellhousing? If so that usually means it wasn't centered when it was tightened to the tranny.

Go to your local parts store and ask for one from a 95 Dodge pickup with a 360. That will get you the Denso high torque, lightweight starter that should bolt right in. Depending on the rebuilder, you may have to bend or remove the tab holding the main power lead to it, but it will bolt right in once that is changed.

I had the same thing happen to me with my mini starter and the nose actually broke off when I removed it. I don't believe that I would have had a problem if I had reused it, but I replaced it anyway because 440source has one for only 80 bucks. I will probably end up reusing the old starter one of these days....

Well the engine is still out of the car so I cant tell you if there is enough clearance. I doubt there will be any issues because it looks identical to my old mini starter and I never had any header issues with it.

You sure that nose doesn't hold the gear in the starter when the solenoid fires to engage the gear during starting?

Are you having problems fitting mini starters with exhaust headers?

One has to be carefl about reusing that starter with the broken cone. That cone supports the end of the shaft while the starter pinion is engagd and turning the ring gear. Could be like spending a buck to save 2c in the long run. I would throw the starter and get another.

the mini starter doesn`t have the extra bushing in the end of the nose like the old style starters do so it is not as critical , but you eithe had a loose bolt or an alignment problem the way it looks

Just a quick question (on topic), sorry Stroker.

Will a mini starter turn a 426/472/528ci crate Hemi engine without any issues?
