Hello from Colorado
« on: May 08, 2007 - 10:10:12 AM »
Hello from Colorado,

New to your site, your webmaster has done a very nice job which most will not realize the amount of work involved to build such a product.  :wow:

For a little information about myself the easiest way would be to direct you to one of my websites: http://banditoracing.tripod.com/index.htm  this will give you more information than most want to know.  :walkaway:

I have been involved since about 1955, got out of car shows and racing to raise a family for 30 years then after retiring got another toy a few years ago. We have done a complete restoration on my 1970 Challenger RT in 2 years, now ready to play.

Thank you for your time

Barry Conner

Welcome   I love your car, but a 71 grill??   Mike

I hear that over and over Mike.  :grinno:  The reason for the later grill was NHRA and AHRA back in the early 80's made a rule change in Chrysler cars favor (hard to believe I know). This car was running in the middle of the class F/SA as a 1970 model which is not helping with weight to horsepower figures. Then the rule chance came along allowing you to simply change the grill to the 71 model year, intake manifold to the thermoquad with bigger cfm carb. and move down one class to G/SA now the weight/power ratio had you at the top of that class where you want to be. This is the reason for the grill change plus I always liked Landy's and Melrose Missle '71 cars.  ;D

Thank you guys for the kind words, you have some beautful Mopars here plus a great website.  :wow:

Projectmopar, Welcome to C-C.com. I see your an old racer. I raced at Maple Grove, PA. many times over the years. Still one of my favorite tracks out here in the Northeast...

When we raced there it was called Reading, remember Lancaster Drag-O-Way, York US 30, Cecil County, Atco and so on. I use to run around with a half dozen guys that raced PA, MD, NJ & DE weekly to monthly. It was hard to get time to work on the cars with all the tracks available in the 60's and 70's. Use to change oil, do tune-ups and trouble shoot at the track gate while waiting for them to open.  :woohoo: Then moved out here in mid 60's and started the process again with less tracks available mading an easier schedule for upkeep. At this time in my life I don't need the stress of all out racing, just a dozen times a season will do as I work for Bandimere's Speedway as a SFI Certified Tech Official part time (that keeps me pumped for fast cars).  :clapping:  :2thumbs:

Your webmaster has "knocked" their self out with the countless hours to make such a great site that everyone here is enjoying, excellent job.  :bananasmi

ProjectMopar, Welcome Aboard. From what I have already read on your site and your responses here, you are going to a perfect fit on this site. I hope that you stick around to share your experience and would LOVE to hear some of your stories about racing in the "Old Days". This will be like Dale Jr.s "Back in the Day" on Speed - Except you were there. I really enjoyed reading your breakdowns of racing by decade on your site and would enjoy hearing more. To start - What would you say was the most difficult decade to race in, based on restrictions and then based on the level of competition. Did the Hemi really have as much of in impact as they say that it did when released ???
