What all are you looking for in the kit?

I am seeking to build a transmission to handle some occasional racing, but more of a driver.   I want it to shift reasonable crisp but not overly hard.   I have a 71 bigblock transmission and it would be behind a 450ish 440 motor.
Not a drag racer, but something robust that will take care of the above needs.

While waiting on other aspects of restoration, (paint, electrical) I want to have a local man build the tranny.    Mind you the transmission and engine combo probably wont be ready to be operational within the next 8 months, but while I have the manpower and money, I want to get it done.   I have an old transmission man here locally nearly 70 yrs old, but he is very sharp and rebuilds very late model transmissions.   Im better off buying a rebuild kit and letting him do it, than buying a rebuilt transmission and having the warranty run out before the car is even ready.

A stock rebuild kit will work fine. Go with a Transgo shift kit.Your tranny man should be able to order anything you need or go to :http://www.transmissionpartsusa.com/TF8_A727_transmission_parts_s/1328.htm
This is a good band with high energy material:http://www.transmissionpartsusa.com/A518_A618_transmission_band_p/540-0054995cr.htm
