Whew whooo...new shop floor friday
« on: May 08, 2007 - 08:03:00 PM »
I just got done moving everything out of the shop and having 24 yds of crushed rocked dumped in front of the doors. A 5 crew team comes in friday at 7am and spreads the rock, lays the plastic and then does the 4 inch concrete and finish work. Complet install in 1 day and it cost 3600 cash. I thought that was a steel for 1200sq ft.

I am shopping for a 4 post lift now. No more gravel and jack stands here.   Since I moved, I have waited 6 yrs saving cash for the shop then the floor. Been a long wait.

Thanks Doug. I am going tomorrow to buy a big 52 commercial fan, a window a/c unit, seeing about my 4 post lift, I feel really lucky too. I just bid on a 22" 328 fan shroud restored for my car and got it for 122.50. Just seems like a lucky day.

Al,  before you pour your floor you may want to think about the type of lift you are going to use, this way you can make the bolt pattern templates and install your anchor bolts in the area where your lift will be.  It's easier now to do this  than to come back later and cut the floor and install them at a later time, also you just may want to consider anchor pots for any type of tiedown you may need to do in the future.

Yes I had thought about that. I am adding a 40x20 awning 12' high in front of my shop and also adding concrete under that next month when I get a break from work. I am installing the 4 post lift under the awning. For the most part it is warm outside 9 out of 12 months a year.  I will do hoist work under the awning. So I will install the anchor bolts out there.

I called last night local to a place where they assemble on sight open wall steel truss buildings  30x40x12  for 2800 bucks.  I kinda need this for storage of future projects. My wife said we could afford the other acre behind my place now and I am going to buy it back and make 100 buck a month payments on it.
We had 7 acres 6 yrs ago. Someone talked us into selling 5.5 acres for a road access through the back of the property to the river. Next thing you know, They devided it up and started selling sections for 3 times the money we payed for it.  I find I need the space for expantion. So I want it back.

I will take some pics friday of the work being done to the shop floor. Right now it just looks like a new building with a gravel floor.  I had a thought about buying a dyno late last night. I think I could make money with all the hotroders around here and getting to stay home more.

4" concrete floor will be strong enough for a lift.  Did they add rebar to the area?  From contacting the mfg for lifts they all suggested a 6" concrete floor, at least in the area of the lift.

I had a 5" floor installed in my garage. Also, it is fiberglass-reinforced concrete, not just plain concrete. It has so much fiberglass in it, that before they finished it off, it looked like a giant fiberglass mat. They guaranteed it not to crack, and said that it is much stronger than regular concrete. The price wasn't very much more, so you may want to consider that if you haven't already. Mine has gone through 4 PA winters and summers now, and there have been 9 cars, parts, and some engines sitting on it all that time, and there's not a sign of a crack anyplace.
