Torsion Bar Issues?
« on: May 09, 2007 - 11:30:31 AM »
I've read a lot of comments on the board about varying leaf spring quality (and as I've posted in several other threads, I am very happy with the ESPO leafs). What I'm wondering is, are there similar issues with torsion bars? I've seen widely varying torsion bar prices, but I don't think I've read one post in which anybody complained about their torsion bars sagging shortly after installation.

Though I've yet to install mine, I purchased a pair from Mancini. (The Mopar Performance ones.)  I've yet to hear any problems with the MP torsion bars, but am aware the rear springs aren't as good as Espo ones.

If you are going to buy the MP torsion bars you should probably buy them soon.  About a year ago I bought them from summit for $140.  Now summit sells them for $300.  I dont know why they jumped up in price so much, but mancini still has them for about $170.

I was thinking the same thing.

I don't know for sure, but I would hazzard a guess to say there are only a couple manufacturers who make torsion bars so they are all coming from those couple of sources.

About 15 years ago when MP reproduction bars came out I bought a set from Mancini for $250. In the ensuing years they have slowly dropped in price to the $130 range at MP dealers. Others like PST and Just Suspension were still charging $250-300 a set. I think MP simply saw an opportunity for more margin, changed dealer prices and viola! everyone is charging $300 a set for new bars.

Yes, there are still dealers out there willing to sell old stock at the old price. I've also noticed that the 1.14, 1.16 and 1.22, which are less popular, are also still available around $130 a set.

i recently rebuilt my whole front suspension with all Firm Feel Inc. , the torison bars are awesome, i bought .960 diameter ones they are more for a big block, and i have a small block, but with the trouble i have had with torsion bars in the past it was worth is and its the best the car has ever handled.

Thanks for the info. I ordered a set of 1.12" bars from JEGs yesterday. By the end of the summer I should be able to report on them.
