MoPower Forum Closed
« on: May 11, 2007 - 09:29:12 AM »

Pretty sad to hear this. I had probably 3 posts but still, look at the email I received.
I heard when it got changed from Moparstyle to MoPower style now that is not even good enough?

What could become of this forum and others like it? Should we start thinking of another name?!?!  :pullinghair:
The email I got from Admin, all members would have received this:

8876, NZ440R/T, nz440rt@xtra.co.nz

I was just notified by Cafe Press that someone has made a claim that the name MoPower Style is their property -- and that I'm violating their Interlectual Property rights by using it.

I've answered back that MoPower stands for More Power, is descriptive, and does not violate anyone's IP rights.

I'm certain that this is Dr. Z's legal department again, and after spending over 200 hours the last time they busted my balls -- I'm done. I will not waste anymore of my time and thousands of dollars every year having anything to do with a make of vehicles that has evolved into what DCX has apparently eveolved into. Hell -- I might start racing Chevys!

Just giving everyone notice if they see this site disappear.

He's probably bummed out because of the way they are treating a loyal enthusiast, however, I agree that he should just find another name and continue on. I've never been to that site, but I wish them luck. I would just hope that if something like that happened here, it would just go on under a different name. Hell, I wouldn't care what they called it, because it's the members that make it what it is, not the name.

I don't understand, theres nothing political nor correct about this.  This is greed and selfishness.  Do a search for mopower on cafepress.com and you come up with some merchandise that is, well, frankly, garbage.  I hardly think that this could really be DCX's doing, it just seems like some jerk with some bad art looking for a quick buck by undercutting a legit enthusiast community.  Ive been a (lurking) member of mopar-style for almost 6 months and it seemed pretty active.
I would imagine that DCX would be within their rights to serve a cease and desist order against who ever's selling that mopower stuff.

Changing the name is what I'd do myself. But it comes down to principle my friends.
Like getting short changed for $1 of $50, it's the principle, no matter the price.
He changed it once, he was fine with that. Changed it again, now he's had enough.

Also, it means a lot to some forum owners (myself included) to have the best name for their site.
There are some Fugly forum addresses out there and not something I'd want to tell someone or link to.
Eg: www.yahoo/mopar-426hemis.com/mysite/linkspace.234567 - Note: Not a real link.

It costs a bit of coin to get these forums the way the members see them and to have it all running well set up exactly how you like it (+ I have OCD) then to find out your name you sat down deciding has to be changed!? JUST as the forum was perfect and operational!?

I wonder is Moparstyle/MoPower the only ones targeted by the  DC hit squad? There are many websites using variations on the Mopar and other trademark names but I haven't heard of any other problems.

The sole reason that Dimler is after him, as I understand it, is because he sells merchandise from his site. I have not heard that any other message boards have been targeted. DMC just dosen't want any company making money off their trademarks. Please correct me if I'm wrong but the first e-mail I got from the site stated this and they wanted the selling of trade marked stuff shut off. Instead he changed the name of the site and continues to sell stuff.  :2cents:

I hope this is the case as it's good for this board and mine and others like it. Is Moparts registered seller?
They have tonnes of products and would be easily the biggest most well know Mopar forum/community. You make a good point though, no other boards have been closed or asked to. Moparchat, dodgechallenger forum, dodgetalk the list goes on. Hopefully it is just the legal sales of Mopar goods. Do you think they'd care about Mopar signs or logos on sites that aren't registered? Or would it only be for selling parts?

I guess only DMX can answer this question. I hope not though as I have some on my site as well. I am a member on MoparStyle as well as Moparts so I get e-mails form them time to time. I will say I have never felt welcome on either site. Not like here!!!!! My biggest problem with both of them is if you think differant then them all you get is flamed. If you car dosn't meet what they think of as a standard it's junk. And for Gods sake don't voice a different opinion of how to repair your car.  :2cents:

PS
I hope they don't shut the sites down 'cause I surelly don't want those a** holes comming to this site a stinking it up also!
