Went to the Machine Gun Range Today
« on: May 12, 2007 - 10:25:00 PM »
This is what 9000 pieces of brass and 9000 links look like buried under a M240B mounted on a tripod like below. The pile is around 8 to 9 inches high. I have some movies to just don't know of a site to host them on.

Would probably be neat to put a Ford or Chevy at the other end.

I have shot at ranges that have old tanks, they are not as much fun as the range I was at with pop up targets you see in the picture. This range had pop up targets simular to the ones in the picture. They start at 300 m and go out to 800 or a 1000 m.

Stateside we have to pick up all brass and seperate the links out of it and turn it back in. When we were in Iraq, we went to a range that was about 10 miles off base. We started shooting and within a half hour, Iraqis showed up and sat on a hill behind us. Once we get done shooting and started driving off they ran down the hill with bags and picked the range clean.  :money:

Looks like that was fun.  I've only shot an AR-15 and an Uzi.  Though the AR-15 looks very cool, I preferred the Uzi more because regardless of the amounts of bullets I shot, the thing never got nearly as hot as the AR did.

I bet that pile of ammo wasn't cheap.

BTW, I don't see any damage to the targets or white flags waving :smilielol:

Not sure the price the goverment pays but the cheapest 7.62.51 round you can by civilian side is $.23 which that pile would cost $1840  :22yikes: However you know the goverment isn't that good of a bargin shopper.  :eek7:
