Guess I already know, - but will a 340 Cui. always have the TF 727 - never a 904..

I want to say yes, but who knows what some previous owner might have done. The shape of the tranny pan will tell you if it's a 727, or 904. I'm sorry I don't have a pic handy to point out the difference for you.
