XV Chassis Stiffening - Video shows how Mopars flex...
« on: May 15, 2007 - 04:43:02 PM »
We put together this video which really shows how much flex there is in stock Mopars and how much our stuff reduces that flex.

The video was shot while the car was on a 4-post rig running opposite corners of the car in pairs at the same time - i.e. Front Right and Rear Left wheels get lifted, then the opposite - Front Left and Rear Right.

It's pretty interesting stuff.

Click here for the video:  XV Chassis Video

Here's some pics of the pieces that we developed.

Lower Radiator Support - ties frame rails together:

Inner Fender Braces:

Sub-Frame Connectors:

Engine Compartment Brace:

Here's how they were developed - full torsion tests:

Wow, I didn't realize that much flex took place in these cars. :eek7:  It looks like I'll be ordering for sure the subframe connectors and the lower radiator cross brace.

You paid how much to discover that? Talk to anyone that darg raced/races a fast stock body one and ask about windsheild bills...

(jk John!)

Question along that the flex testing lines. Did you also run tape thru the passenger compartment, from the dash corners to the speaker shelf? Seems to me the frame connectors stop a lot of the twist in thepassenger "box", but I'm curious how much of that force is now transmitted to the C pillars roof and A pillars. I had a couple cars with good connectors welded to the floors but no cage and the underbracing behind the C pillar skins started to flex and push the C pillar skin out. It got ugly...lol.

All good stuff.

I ordered everything except the engine compartment brace (won't work w/a Shaker scoop).

BTW, for the lower radiator support brace, what are those two little squares for?  I don't recall seeing those in the box I received.

Hi Dave,

Yes we ran tape in the passenger compartment as well, but didn't see significant movement there.

The two pieces were added in and ship with all the braces now.  Depending upon how you're rad is setup and how you mount the brace, you may need to use these little extensions to clear it.  If you replace the stock support and run a rad with top and bottom tanks you'll need to use the extensions.  Rads with side tanks generally don't need them.

If you need the extensions just give us a ring and we can send them out to you.

John,

Any idea when the engine compartment brace is going to be done?  I ordered the complete chassis stiffening kit in early September 2006 and I still haven't received the engine compartment brace.  Last time I asked Peter, a month ago now, he said another 12 weeks?   :dunno:

Thanks,
Travis

Great Video John!  How many of the XV cars have you completed.  I'm hearing more and more folks are either considering and have purchased your components and the feedback is excellent.  Keep up the good work!  I really like what Bill Howell is doing!

Travis,

We've had a lot of trouble getting the engine braces made up in production quantities.  The problems have been twofold.  First is limiting the number of designs to support all the engine and induction combos we need to support and second has been on the manufacturer side, which is now put to bed.  We've got a great company that has CNC benders to do stuff just like this and can do all kinds of fabrication.

The bad news is we're probably six weeks out on the first batches and depending on the application some will take another four to eight after that.

I'm sorry it's taking so long on these, but they have ben one of the harder ones to get into production for us.  We've had to raise the price on these and some of the other pieces, so you've got it at the original lower price.

Again, I'm sorry this one is giving us so much trouble to get produced.
