Have driven several 4-spd cars with the Hurst shifters but only one with the Pistol grip which is the one I currently own. Pistol grip with a 5-spd.

The same shift pattern but with my left hand would mess me up.  1st and 2nd would be farthest away and hitting 3rd gear while speed shifting is hard enough pushing away from me. How do you not hit 5th sometimes?

I have 3 4 speed cars now.  I have had many in the past.  It is a fun way to go.  My convertible is an automatic.  I plan to keep it that way since it is a cruiser.  NZ you will have fun with the pistol grip.

I have never gone from 3rd to 5th. When I first got the car back from installing a short shifter occasionally I would go from 2nd>3rd but miss 3rd and hit in between 1st-3rd, just clutch in again and get it in but that was only due to the short shifter being such a close throw, have to be precise. Second nature now but like any manual car it would take someone a little time to fully get use to it, more so with a short shifter.

Yep, the Cuda I had before this one was a factory 340 4 speed car, I loved that pistol grip. I guess that's why I've put together a pistol grip shifted 833OD for the Duster my son and I are building for him!

My Super Bee and Chally are both 440 6 pack cars with four on the floor.  The pistol grip is definately superior to the ball handle on the bee.

Never driven a pistol grip but I will when mine is done.  I have a '74 Cuda with a 3 speed manual that I am converting over to a A-833 pistol grip shifted 4-speed.  Can't wait to run it through the gears after the restoration is done! :burnout:

I've owned 4 E body 4spds. I plan to convert my '70. I have a customer's '70 383 RT Challenger I drove today a little bit. I can shift a bit better than he can...lol. I don't consider any automatic to be a pistol grip. If it doesnt rock a little getting in and out of the throttle, it ain't real. Anybody can push a  button or lift a detent release...lol.

I never have NZ. I have dreamed of having a nice 4-speed vert for as long as I can remember. To me there are shifters and then there are pistol grip shifters. It is IMO the ultimate factory row it yourself shifter. I have seen a few of the automatic pistol grips and while they look super and I would not mind having one, I think it would make me want the real thing too much. I plan on converting my 70 Challenger from slapstick to 4 speed or keisler when I get around to doing it. I have always preferred manual transmissions. When I got my 99 neon I did not even consider getting a slushbox. For some reason around here manual shift cars and Barracudas in general are as rare as hens teeth.

Seems like a lot of you Mopar people have driven one, lucky buggers!!
Sure is an "in your face" to the Brand-X guys with manual transmissions.

Bragging rights. "Ahem, what does yours have? Oh......one of those, a ball".  ::)

Drove this 70 440-6 dana car a few times after we finished restoring it....

70 Cuda, 7.0L Gen-III Hemi, Viper T56 w/9310 gearset, 3.91's, Megasquirt MS3x v3.57, Innovate wideband, Firm Feel upper arms, torsion bars, springs and strut rods, QA1 DA shocks. I did everything on this car except the fancy paint stuff and I drive it...and I can't seem to stop messing with it....
