I pretty much agree with what everyone else here is saying, but for me it’s not that bad. The people who have long commutes have it the worst. Here’s how my math breaks down:
I have 34 mile round trip commute to and from work. That’s at least 170 a week plus what ever else I drive on the weekends. My truck had a 24 gallon tank and I get about 340 miles before I am down to fumes. So I basically fill up every other week, but not quite exactly every two weeks. It’s more like every 1.7th a week. And if there are an average of 4.3 weeks in a month, I fill up 2.53 times a month. So with 24 gallons of gas at $2.50 (=$60), verses $3.25 (=$78), I end up spending $152 or $198 respectively. Which is a difference of $46 a month. And $1824 or $2376 for the year, which is a difference of $552. That seems like a lot of money, but I would gladly pay it rather than have to wake up super early to ride the bus to work! I like the electric car idea the best as an alternative. Has anybody else seen the YouTube videos for the White Zombie electric race car? It is bad ass!
