The oil companies aren't stupid.  They'll drop the price again this year as they wouldn't want to any alternate fuel ideas to blossom!

Right now oil companies are working to get our government to license alternative fuels to them!! No one else will be able to get a license to produce alternative fules.

I pretty much agree with what everyone else here is saying, but for me it’s not that bad.  The people who have long commutes have it the worst.  Here’s how my math breaks down:

I have 34 mile round trip commute to and from work.  That’s at least 170 a week plus what ever else I drive on the weekends.  My truck had a 24 gallon tank and I get about 340 miles before I am down to fumes.  So I basically fill up every other week, but not quite exactly every two weeks.  It’s more like every 1.7th a week.  And if there are an average of 4.3 weeks in a month, I fill up 2.53 times a month.  So with 24 gallons of gas at $2.50 (=$60), verses $3.25 (=$78), I end up spending $152 or $198 respectively.  Which is a difference of $46 a month.  And $1824 or $2376 for the year, which is a difference of $552.  That seems like a lot of money, but I would gladly pay it rather than have to wake up super early to ride the bus to work!  I like the electric car idea the best as an alternative.  Has anybody else seen the YouTube videos for the White Zombie electric race car?  It is bad ass!

Must have had about 3/4 of their refineries shut down for it to miraculously jump up 1.00 in the last 2 weeks.  2 weeks ago it was 2.50 here for reg, now its 3.50 and they say tomorrow the prices go another 20 cents up.  Wish I knew how to become a oil company big wig so I can buy hemi cudas every day and spend money to develop a car that runs on hundred dollar bills instead of the fuel the company makes...

Check out the Tesla Roadster (250hp/130mph/seats2/200mi range/3.5hr charge) (www.teslamotors.com) and
the ZAP-X (644hp/155mph/seats7/350mi range/10min charge) (www.zapworld.com), if you want to see some serious electric peformance.
YouTube videos available on both.

Expensive now, but prices will drop as others jump on the bandwagon. IMO, hydrogen fuel cells are already a dead technology.

Fuel prices are bad for everyone.  As working commuters you pay $$$ just to have a portion of your paycheck go to gas.  But it doesn't stop there.
I'm in the transportation delivery business and we have to increase our prices on a weekly basis to cover the costs of fuel.  When it used to cost us $58 to fill up our straight truck it now costs us $90.  Our vans went from $44 to $62.
I can tell you that our business has slowed down drastically partly due to the prices we have to charge,  But the sad thing is is that we are the reason why you will be paying more for everyday items at the store.  If we have to add $180 additional to a shipment, the consumer ends up paying.
So while we are all focused on how much we pay for gas, we let the fact that everyday items are costing more.  I feel that any and all transportation companies delivering products to stores and mfgs should be able to get a tax break of some sort for the cost of fuel to help keep shipping prices down and provide some relief to consumers.  This way we could lower our prices so the consumers don't end up paying more for products all around.

 :iagree:
I think gas prices are a very big part of the inflation equation we are seeing in our economy.  I think we risk living through another period of StagFlation in the united states because of the current dynamics in place for our economy.  Will I be able to afford to drive a stroker engine after the rebuild in June.  Things aren't looking good right now.   :bricks1:

Over the weekend I filled up at $2.58 a gallon. But, that was diesel and my Jetta TDI gets 47 mpg of diesel. SUCKERS!

No, J/K, my diesels are going up too.
