yah those TDI cars are looking better and better with gasoline being so ridiculous.  Diesel is a full dollar a gallon cheaper here than gas :villagers:

Bad news guys.

They are predicting a big hurricane season, since El-Nino won't be able to help us this year. As soon as a hurricane is a million miles from hitting the U.S., the prices will go up in full panic mode.  :dupe:  :dupe:  :dupe:

 :canada:

$1.229 per Liter in Calgary Alberta Canada

That's $4.30US a gallon for all the yanks out there.

It's kind of funny how the pump price isn't related to the price per barrel anymore.

$80 barrel = 1.129per Liter
$63 barrel = 1.229per Liter

It's because of the refineries shutting down because of mice problems and a guy that had a heart attack. They will shut them down if someone sneezes just so they can say the demand is exceeding the production.

Do you find it odd that ALL the refineries are now operating way below capacity due to some type of upgrading or maintenance??  :screwy: I'm sure the prices will drop when they get back up to par.  :dupe:  :dupe:  :dupe:

The pump price is only related to the crude price when it's "convenient" for the oil companies - just like when crude goes down and gas doesn't it's because of inventories.  It is interesting that they don't seem to have these inventories when crude goes up!  Now that the consumer has caught on they have new excuses.  When it's not crude prices it's "supply and demand" (they've got the supply and we demand the gas), increased refining costs, etc.  Are gas futures bid on like pork futures?  I don't think it's an open market like most commodities.  The reality is that the only thing that has gone up significantly is their profit margins.  These price increases are part of a long term marketing strategy that was known about the last time gas hit $1/litre in Canada sometime last year.  They wanted to "push through the $1/litre barrier" and prepare us for higher prices.  Now that we are prepared, bend over. Just a little rant. :eek4:

So True. It's the old ratchet effect. Raise the price to $2/gal. People complain. Drop gas down to $1.50/gal. Everyone is "Relieved". Raise the price to $3/gal. People complain. Drop the price down to $2.50/gal. People are "Relieved". Raise the price to $4/gal. People complain. Lower the price to $3.50/gal. People are "Relieved". Meanwhile they are laughing all the way to the bank. Congress was having hearings when gas hit $3/gal last time. Where are they now? Notice that although oil companies are raking in record profits, they are not investing in new refineries? :villagers:

Paid $3.69 yesterday for regular. :stomp: :puke:
Read this article for a little 'edumucation' before you get too comfortable sitting on the "blame the big oil companies for everything" bandwagon. :stirpot:

Ours went down .10 yesterday. I cannot say why as we were .12 to .14 higher than the national average for a long time. We were at $3.21 last night.

What is the differance between regular and premium at your pump?

In Canada we pay 10C more a L for premium(90 octane) over regular(87 octane)

$0.10 x 3.78 = $0.378 x $0.92 (exchange rate) = $35Cents US more per gallon for premium.

Last time I was down in the states, most places were only a few cents more per gallon!

A Valero (I think) mgr said that the margins in refining were negligible.  This was a couple of years ago when prices were low.  These previous low prices and the environmental regulations have likely squashed the building of new refineries.  Our increasing consumption only hurts the situation.  The high prices are tough to swallow though when there are 3 refineries in town and over a million barrels of oil a day flows in our province.

I know how we love to complain, but the fact is we are spoiled here in the USA, we have the lowest gas prices in the world and we always have.  Go to Europe or even the Great White North and compare...our prices have historically always been lower.  If you want to blame someone, blame ourselves; We are ruled by 'Tree Huggers' who won't let us drill in Alaska, won't let us drill off the coast (meanwhile Cuba has no qualms about drilling only 40 miles off the Florida coast and taking the oil that WE should have), won't let us build new refineries (we have not built a single one in almost 50 years: "Not in my back yard"), wont let us use nuclear power, won't let us use wind power (Ted Kennedy says it will ruin the view at Martha's vineyard), and on and on...meanwhile these socialist-commie a-holes brain wash us with the same old 'anti-capitalist' b/s and blame the oil compamies.  The fact is there have been over 50 government and private investigations over the years on the 'price-gouging' assertions and it have never been substantiated.  Bottom line: want lower prices? Then drill, drill, and drill again! And a few new refineries would help too...OK I'm done ranting!
One more thing; remember the last time we tried to limit oil companies profits (the Windfall-Profit Tax)? We got rationing, odd/even only days to buy, long lines, etc. Do you really want that again?
