Good find, I'm buying mine here:

http://www.towerhobbies.com/products/hpi/hpid53.html

2.2hp small block "with aggressive porting", 2-speed auto tranny, that's too cool.  I'll disconnect the shaft for the front drive, get some rear slicks, and see if I can play with the gearing.  But I guess before I pull the trigger, I'll wait and see if anyone's up to speed in that hobby and has any good opinions.  Cheers.

That was just released. HPI makes nice realistic bodies and includes all the masking you need. I got a GT350 body before the AAR came out.

:iagree: That would be my inclination also  :grinyes: but then I read something kind of interesting.

Usually bigger is better but I read on an RC forum that for certain sizes, bigger is not always better.  I think that they were talking .12, .15, and .18 engines.  They said that the .12 in comparable cars is faster than the .15 and .18 engines due to the design.  .12 engines have had more racing tech put into it compared to the other engines and also they said something about the shorter stroke allowing it to rev faster and higher.  In that discussion they also mentioned other engines too, I forget the sizes but maybe comparing a .25 to a .35 in a monster truck of somesort and they said the bigger engine couldn't go that fast.  Might have more torque though.  Again, just what I heard on that forum.

I have always wondered if a weed wacker engine could work in a 1/8 scale 4WD frame.... I have one of those lying around here.  :clueless:  Don't know what to do about a tranny though.

For big-block most racers use .21 engines unless they are in a Monster Truck because they have top-end power.
For small-block most racers use .12 or .15 usually .12 in a light car and .15 in a heavy
People have put weed-wacker engines in Monster Trucks they wheely on command but are kinda slow.
My Savage is on its second engine block and has had 3 1/2 gallons threw it. I cracked the first one.

My buddy had one of the nitro cars, but ended up selling it because he didn't have any smooth pavement to drive it on.  kept getting gravel and such in his belts from the crappy Michigan road work :roflsmiley:

I have that cuda body.  Joe made a 72 stripe for it and painted it panther pink.  I sometimes take it to car shows with me (when I have the time for car shows, lol)  I will have to get a pic of it, he did a great job making the body look like a 72 Cuda.

Aw now you're gonna make me do it...  I haven't shown these pictures in years...

I got sucked into this hobby two years ago - gave up on it quickly though - I spent more on it then I've spent on my Cuda so far!!!

And compare to:

Those were my trashing wheels - forgot to bring my show ones when these pictures were taken.

I also built a SWEET candy-apple red Viper with ghost flames, but I've kinda wrecked that body...  I gave up on the hobby before I did any more bodies - painting the cars was the most fun part.  I've got an Intrepid Nascar body that I wanted to do up in a Coors Light theme, and a Ferrari Enzo body that I painted and cut out, but never finished fitting to the chassis (mounting holes, exhaust, etc.)

Cool car 73Barracuda!  Looks nice!

BTW- I spoke with HPI, the company that makes the AAR body and they said that a Challenger body could be a possibility.  It's just a matter of the trademark stuff.  We'll see.....

I picked up one of the bodies for my RS3 a week ago and finally got around to painting it.  Found a good post on a forum about how to get a durable flat black finish on the lexan bodies so I tried it out and very happy with the results.  I can see using this technique for fender flares on trucks as well.  The process involves masking off the area, scuffing the area to be painted wit a scotch-brite pad or fine sand paper, then using a light coat of a aerosol "Plasti Dip".   I happened to find a Rustoleum version and used it.  You have to be very careful of how thick it gets, as it will fill in the detail lines very quickly.
