Its nothing special, just a plain Jane 318. Just glad I don't have to do rockers, sill, pans, etc.... The roof skin was relatively easy. Just a lot of time invested in planishing/fabbing up the bad spots. I can't wait to get her on there permanently. Someday.

Man that looks like some great work!  Thanks for posting links to your pics, it keeps me motivated with my project.  Do you have a lot of experience with body work, or is this your first attempt?  Are you going for a stock resto with the original color/drive train or are you going freestyle?

Kyle,

To answer your question, yes I have done body work before, but not at this level. I learned metal finishing long ago from my grandfather- and I am using his tools form the 40s to do the work. I try to be very patient, but it is not exactly in my nature. I tooka  course in college - "metals" - It taught you the basics of shaping and forming. Granted, it was not sheet metal, but the same principals apply.

My intent is to build a sneaky Plain Jane custom. I.e. big wheels and tires, and some excellent suspension mods. At this time, I will not get into a rallye hood, even though I love 'em. I will keep the stock interior color - White, but the exterior color is debatable. It was originally white, but who knows.....

As far as drivetrain goes, well...My imagination powers it..... I don't know, maybe a hybrid turbo small block engine to keep the fuel consumption down, but the HP up. Then again, I am going to have to pay for it somehow....

Here are some new pics:

This week I performed surgery on th e trunk pan.
I replace the center portion - there are some detailed photos of how I did it.

Yes, the lip edge is on the outer side of the tail panel. It's tricky to do, but once you figure it out, it's a snap.

Thanks guys!

I hope that it continues to go smoother. The trunk pan is IN. The new decklid filler panel or Dutchman is "in".
I have taken so much structural integrity away from the car, I need to make sure she is sware as a brick before I weld everything in place.

The new dutchman does not fit as nicely ti the new driver's quarter panel as I hoped it would. I tried like hell to persuade them together. No luck yet. Those factory welds from the dutchman to the trunk gutters are horrific to get past.
The way Goodmark designed the quarter was to lap over the dutchman. In reality, it is the opposite.
Detail pic to come.
Anyone else have these issues?

On the bright side, it is nice to have new panels...

Best,

Dan

Here are some more pics:

This is a pic of the dutchman corner to new quarter

This is an intersection to the factory original quarter:
notice the gap towards the rear of the decklid narrows up. This is before some moderate persuasion was applied.
this is the best I could do to get a better gap.
