is there 1970 specific carpet?
« on: May 21, 2007 - 11:17:22 AM »
I have a 70 barracuda and a 70 challneger both with the under the carpet seatbelts. Is there supposed to be special molded carpet to clear them or do we just use the later model and make them work? Everything I see listed shows 1971-1974, but I don't see anything listed for 1970 only. On a related note where is the best place to buy the sill plates? Is there anything to watch out for when buying the sill plates for a driver? Mopar liscensed repro versus NOS versus aftermarket repro?

I can't help with the carpet question, but I know about the sill plates. There are 2 types out there. The shiney polished type, and the not so polished aluminum. I have a pair of the latter that you can have cheap.

I just put a new carpet in my '70 this winter. A friend that owns a restoration shop up here ordered it for me with other carpets so I didn't have to pay the shipping. He got it from a place called ACC. Yes it was contoured for the under carpet seatbelt plastic cover BUT I noticed the bill did say 71 - 74 Cuda. I know this just confused the issue more, maybe some e-mails to the carpet making people might help.

I got a set of the new sill plates and they are soft scratchable JUNK. so I took my originals and wet sanded them with 600 grit intil all the scratches were gone then hand polished them back to a new finish with a good aluminum polish. it took about an hour each but they could pass for NOS now. most of the repop parts I've been happy with but not the sill plates. I got a set of Trimparts brand carpet for my '70 from one of the ebay vendors and it fit and looks nice.

Cheap? Sounds good. I'll take them. Just trying to get some interior into the recent barracuda aquisition. The ones in it are very dented and have a few extra holes drilled in them. I just need something to look halway decent until the convert gets finished so I can switch cars. I'm in Dallas, Texas.

Mike, what is the better quality sill? I think I may have the high polished ones (YO).
I quite like the subtle look of the "dull" ones, more classy to me.

Where did you get them from and why are you selling? Do you prefer the polished type ones? :dunno:
Ps: Sorry to the original poster for this quick hi-jack, although it is somewhat on topic. :icon16:

NZ,

I'm 99% sure I bought them from Jack's Auto Parts. I prefer the highly polished look, that's why I'm selling them.

is it actually available? Everything I see lists 1970-1974 or 1971-1974, but nothing 1970 only.
Looking at ACCMATS site they show the same part number with a dash for the year, which leads me to the conclusion that there is just one model since the 71-74 are the same. I ordered a $100 set from Adeals off ebay for the barracuda driver and don't care if it is a little off, but the Challenger is going together for the final time so it needs to be right.
