I have a black canister in the right front of the engine compartment, it has various hoses attached to it. They have been cut to about 3 to 4 inches. What is the purpose of this canister and should I re-attach the hoses?

iuti is a vapor canister , it stores raw gas fumes & burns them off when the engine is restarted , it hurts nothing to have it hooked up , but may not connect to the carb on the engine if it is not a factory carb

j/k - erm, yeah - what he said...

Oo I know - I'll throw this in - Carbon Canisters and PCV valves are about the only two emissions controls from the 60's still used today. And don't go adding air pumps 'cause they finally gave up on those too.
