Opinions needed on Radiator choice.....
« on: May 22, 2007 - 10:15:31 AM »
OK, looking for your guys more experienced opinion once again.  Trying to decide between a Be Cool Aluminum Radiator, and a U.S. Radiator 4 core.  I have heard good things on both, and wanted your guys opinion as well.  Thanks.

Be Cool radiators are very nice & overpriced.  :money: I'm not familiar with U.S. radiators. I opted for a Summit aluminum radiator that as far as I can tell has about the identical specs and quality as the Be Cool, just a whole lot cheaper but it doesn't have that way cool "Be Cool" radiator cap!!  :crying: I am very pleased with it and have absolutely no complaints about the Summit radiator & not to say that the Be Cool radiator is a bad product, just pricy!! If you're not into buying name brands (no doubt some name brands are well worth the money due to high quality) but still want quality I would do some shopping. There's good quality out there that's much cheaper on your wallet than Be Cool. Just my  :2cents: Maybe someone else out there can chime in on U.S. radiators!! Let us know what you buy & how it works out for you!! :2thumbs:

I just bought a $299 Summit radiator. They are made by Northern. Do a search, they ar ea avery big company that does alot of industrial and farm equipment radiators. A good company. There is a thread in here > http://www.cuda-challenger.com/cc/index.php?topic=29472.0.

Reilly Motorsports has some AFCO's (the shock and spring people) http://www.reillymotorsports.com/store/product.php?productid=16159&cat=259&page=1that are $100 less than the Summit/Northern "direct fit" http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=SUM%2D380460&FROM=MG, which is not that "direct". SUmmit Part #'s are SUM-380459 for small block and SUM-380460 for big blocks.

Ron Davis if you want aluminum. I have one on order.
Heard good things about US Radiator 4 core also. Both are bolt in and you can use a stock fan shroud.

I am leaning heavily toward the U.S. Radiator 4 core "Desert Cooler" version. It is not that high of a price (especially compared to the Be Cool). I got a Jeg's Aluminum "Direct Fit" about a year ago, and it just does not cool like I would like. It is only two row, and with the HP I am pushing and the 110 degree summers out here, I want to take the extra care in not letting the thing overheat.   I know the clutch fan I put back will help as well, and if you guys say the stock shroud should work again, I would be set.  Any other experiences/opinions would be appreciated.

Griffin Radiators
www.griffinrad.com/muscle.php

I sent them my core for a 440 Cuda rad and they replicated it exactly (bossings bumps nooks etc.)
Not sure on current pricing but I got back a 4 core alum match of what I sent them. In my opinion better than Be cool and others.

I did some measuring, then bought a Howe aluminum out of Summit for around $200 to $250 I think. It fit great and had the inlets and outlets where I needed them. I just had to make two simple brakets to hang it on. Cools my 496 great!

On second thought, though I first went to Summit, I ended up calling Howe direct, and told them what I needed. Sorry for the confusion. It's been about 8 years.
