Engine bay size and dimensions
« on: May 23, 2007 - 08:48:14 AM »
Hi guys, I'm designing an engine using CAD (It's a clean sheet design), and I decided that the best engine bay for it would be that of an E body.

The engine will most likely never be produced. It's more of a challenge in engineering.

Anyway, I don't actually have an E body to measure the engine bay of, but I do suspect the engine is currently too big. It would be wonderful if anyone could give any estimates of the dimensions in there. Even if its just a guesstimate from memory. Some useful data would be the length, from radiator to firewall (just make a rough estimate since I understand the distances will be different in different places), the width of the K frame at top and bottom (or just another guesstimate if you cant be bothered with a ruler - I wouldn't blame you) and the height from the bonnet down to around the end of the k frame/the road below it (or both!).

I have attached a really simple bit of Microsoft paint, to help you out if you need a way to describe where your measurement is from. Keep in mind I really don't know what it looks like in there, so forgive me if its a geometric abomination.

As a reward, if theres anything you want to know about the engine, I will answer as best I can. (although some things are likely to change and I wont give a specific answer because who knows what the answer will be a week down the road). Come to think of it, I might even reply with pictures of the engine if theres a relevant one :)
