Carlisle Questions from a first-timer...
« on: May 23, 2007 - 08:47:52 PM »
Hey Guys,

I'm stoked beyond belief to attend Carlisle this year - my first car show ever as more than just a looker and a dreamer!

I already told my employer not to even think about me for that weekend - I'm pretty much planning on spending the whole time at the show.  Of course, I figure I'll probably get bored pretty quick, so I wanted to ask ya:

For someone comin' the first time, what should I expect?  Should I bring stuff to do/play with/entertain myself with?  I mean obviously yeah I'm gonna check out the cars and such, chat with people, the likes, but after day one...  then what?  I'm not exactly a high-roller, so I won't be buyin' much (if anything,) and I'm still pretty new to all this, so I won't be talkin' much talk...  I guess I'm just trying to make this experience 100% positive and be prepared to fight off any boredom!

Also, on a somewhat separate topic, I live about 20 minutes from the grounds - so if there are any evening gatherings/parties/get togethers planned, think I could score some invites?  Or if there are any other new guys that just wanna chill out, have some beers and get their asses kicked in Gran Turismo 4, hit me up!

First off . . if you're not going to talk much . . sit next to MEK!   :grinyes:   As for boredom . . . not going to happen. (as you can see from this thread http://www.cuda-challenger.com/cc/index.php?topic=23115.0 )   Not at this show!!  We are a club that will keep you entertained for sure!  I will bring the grill for lunch and the tent is already secured for our club!!  There is always someone at the tent!  No worries here . . if this is your first show . . you're starting off with the best!   :worshippy  You should visit with us at the hotel if you have the time as we all hang out and have a great time after the show!   :clapping:

Good questions.  This will be our first time to Carlisle too.  When the show is over for each day does everyone take their cars away or do you leave them there overnight?  If you guys leave them is there any security?  I know if you are in the Special Invitation Building the cars stay until Sunday but I was wondering if you guys leave them under the tent at night or take them back to your hotels?  It would be nice to just leave them under the tent each night if that is what you guys do.  Thanks.  Hope everybody has a great and safe Memorial Day this weekend.

First off let me say that the past 2 years I've gone I have NEVER been bored at this show!! I'm a woman so that there should tell you something    ( just for the record I don't hang out under the  "womans" tent   :eek4:)  There's so much to see I wouldn't worry about it. Don't forget about the burnouts, bikini contest and the drag racing at South Mountain Dragway as well as hangin' out the hotels in the evening.   I haven't been over to the tent in past years, but this year, the bf and I will definetly be introducing ourselves. I can't wait to go!!!

Most everyone takes their cars each night, at least from CC.com, there are others that leave them on the grounds though.

Our usual plan is to arrive Thursday and get registered at the Fairgrounds... Makes Friday morning much easier.  Thursday night we go out to eat together locally and then hang out in the hotel parking lot till we drop.  Bring your lawn chairs!  Friday we're at the show all day long looking at cars together and hanging out under the tent....last year most napped!   :smilielol:  Friday night we usually drive our cars back to the hotel and order pizzas and eat in the parking lot hanging out together.  Saturday...back to the show and more car oogling and sitting under the tent out of the hot sun.  Saturday night... the burnout contest then dinner at Grandpa's Growler then back to the hotel.  Sunday, usually everyone leaves to go home.  A great, great time... can't wait.  :2thumbs:

Hey Guys!
It's Ed from Carlisle Events.  I know it's been a while but I had another show this past weekend and now that it's over I can give 100% to Chrysler.  I'm glad to see so many posts about the show.

This is my first year managing this event so I'm not taking credit for the awesome shows in previous years.  I have, however, attended every year as a participant and I was NEVER bored.  In fact, it always seems like Sunday gets here before you know it and you're thinking about all of the things that you were going to do but didn't.

Here's a couple of this year's highlights:
THURSDAY: My car club, Mopar Rebellion, holds the Kick-Off to Carlisle which is a FREE cruise at the RESIDENCE INN starting at 4pm.  This is the same Kick-Off that was held at the local Chrysler*Jeep dealer since 2000 but we had to move it to the RESIDENCE INN because we're out of room.  Go to www.MoparRebellion.com for more info.

ALL WEEKEND:
Don Garlits and Swamp Rat VIII
Shirley Muldowney (Fri-Sat)
Deanna Stevens and her 180+ mph '69 Road Runner
Chrysler Concepts (Challenger WILL be here)
Chrysler Test Drives
Dodge Motorsports NASCAR simulator (new this year)
Invitational Displays (see Dayclona's '71 GTX convertible - it's still under construction as I type this)
Seminars
Concours detailed '70 B-body Hemi and 4 speed by Frank Badalson in Building T
SME
Survivor Display
Ronnie Sox Foundation (Diane Sox will be here)
2000+ cars on the Show Field
1967 Dodge/Chrysler/Plymouth dealership (I'll make a separate post on this later)
High & Mighty II

FRIDAY:
All of the above plus Drag Racing at South Mountain Dragway

SATURDAY:
All of the above plus Rock Crawling (anyone with a Jeep or other Mopar 4X4 can try it out - not responsible for carnage!)

SUNDAY:
All of the above plus:
Worship service
Awards Parade

I"ll try to be more active on here now that the other show is over but please remember that planning these shows is a full-time job and I'm going to be VERY busy now with the All-Chrysler Nationals.  See you all in July!!!!

My problem last year was there wasn't enough time to se everything.  2000+ cars, and acres of vendors & all the other things that people have mentioned.  If you like Mopars, you can't get bored.

Bill,

You need to get one of those annoying golf carts with a horn, and run people over like others do.

Rev is a GREAT negotiator at getting pizzas delivered.  :smilielol: Sorry, that's another side story in itself.  :stirpot:

Aw man!!!  Now I'm MORE stoked!!  Thanks so much for the replies.

Lawn Chair - check - There's a new one at Wal-Mart that I needed just the right excuse to buy - GOT IT!

And hey - I've got quite the hand for grillin'.  Should I plan to bring some beverages or food or something?  I've got a huge cooler I can donate for the weekend.  What's the usual buy-in for some food?  (I uh, I love food...)

Where's the hotel?  I live locally, so I'm just heading home every night.  I'd offer a futon for someone to stay, but our place is a disaster.  I will host some Gran Turismo tournies (Playstation 2) if anyone's interested!

And Cudaboy340 - About the Challenger and the test drives - when can we TEST DRIVE the CHALLENGER?!?!

Thanks guys - see y'all soon.

Sure will be good meeting you and thanks for any help you can or like to offer. Dave (4C) is the designated club gourmet grilling expert, he's very very good. The man is a grilling machine, he makes those BBQ tools work like CP can handle wrenches and sockets.................In orther words he's the man with the right tools. He brings along a lot of goodies and we all chip in to help him with the $$$$$ expense, but I'm certain he'll be willing to cook whatever you may wish to bring. There is going to be a record crowd from c-c.c this year, hell, we may need two tents along with the lil blue annex beer drinking tent.  :roflsmiley: :roflsmiley:  :smilielol:  :smilielol:  :smilielol: Me and MEK keep the blue tent occupied, we have a standing reservation.
