HK,

I have owned a few like that. I will definitely need a few parts for this one, but not much in the way of rusty sheetmetal. Big items needed will be the R/T hood, Rallye Instruments, Rim Blow Wheel, Exhaust Tips, etc. Hopefully I will not have to difficult of a time getting those pieces. I have been working with Pontiacs for so long, I have no idea what MoPar stuff is worth anymore...Robert

What?  No Shaker conversion?  Perfect flat hood for it!

Guess not if going for the VP look.

No news yet....the property owner had to leave town unexpectedly, but left me a note stating she would be back on Monday. I hate waiting, but after 27 years, I guess 72 hours isn't so bad..... :blah:

Shaker??? I was never a big fan of that look....I actually like the Six Pack Hood better on a Challenger. My plans are to open up the scoops in the R/T hood an fabricate a functional cold air intake using a six pack air cleaner.

I might even work up to a six pack setup in the future, but to save $$$ and speed the project along, I will use a single 4 barrel to start with.

Man...my shopping list is kinda long...A-833 gearbox, shifter and linkage, R/T hood, 8-3/4" differential....looks like a lot of long hours on E-Bay selling my Muncie and disc brake 10-bolt... :ebay:

Can't wait to get started...Robert

Hey Robert, it sounds like you're a pretty hardcore Vanishing Point fan, like myself. Are you planning on making a "replica" or just a White Challenger? I get the feeling you're making a VP car, yes? If so they used a 440-4bbl not a Six Pak (71). The Fox remake of course used a Hemi. Mine is not a "VP Replica" lots of things wrong to officially be "correct" but it wasn't what I was aiming for, I just like white cars and the lines on the Challenger are exaggerated even more with White which is why I chose it. Just curious as to where your going with yours.

NZ,

I am planning on a very close resemblance to the original 'VP' Challenger. I am a huge fan of the movie, since seeing it first in 1974 and have wanted that car ever since. My approach is as follows. Deviations from the 'VP' car noted:

True and correct Alpine White Finish with twin body-color outside mirrors (deviation)

No Hood Blackout, No Grille Blackout, No Taillamp Panel Blackout (unsure)

R/T Hood and full R/T Emblem Package (Faithful)

15 X 7" Rallyes up front with 15 X 8's in back (Deviation)

Black Interior (Faithful)

9.50:1 440, 915 heads, custom designed/ground .500"/.500" - 226°/232° @ .050" - 111.5° LSA Hydraulic Camshaft

Roller Rockers and shafts (Deviation)

Dual Plane Intake with Holley 650 vacuum secondary (Deviation)

Hood Scoops opened, Six Pack Air Cleaner adapted for use with single 4V (Deviation)

Mallory Dual Point curved for 20° BTDC initial and 36° total by 3000 rpm (engine from a 1988 recipe Obvious Deviation)

Headers, 2.50" exhaust with correct R/T Tips (Deviation)

A-833 Four Speed, Pistol Grip Shifter (Faithful)

8-3/4" differential, 3.23:1 Sure Grip, Lincoln Mark VII Rear Disc Conversion (Deviation)

1.00 Torsion Bars up front with Gusseted Lower Control Arms (Deviation)

1-1/8" front sway bar and stock Disc Brakes (Stock and therefore Faithful)

1.00" rear sway bar (Deviation T/A only)

From an appearance standpoint, the car should be a very faithful reproduction of the 'VP' Challenger. Most of the changes I propose are simply to enhance the driveability of the car and improve handling. Hopefully, I can get it close to the kind of handling/braking I currently enjoy with my 1975 Firebird Formula.

Sound sensible to you NZ????.....Robert

Thanks,

It's definitely going to take some work, but the car is super solid in all the traditional E-Body 'trouble spots', except for the panel under the rear window.

Seem strange that a slant six car would have come Plum Crazy from the factory...Robert

Yeah...I know....The photos were not that great. You can see the LH side of the car in one of my previous posts. The car has been repainted a hideous shade of blue. I plan to devote a complete thread to the restoration...Robert
