Alberta is a great place to live if you got here before the boom and have a decent job.  Otherwise it has got pretty pricey.  I'm sending guys north to work and they can make well over $120K which is great if you can keep yourself from going suicidal. The winters do keep alot of the riff raff away from northern Ab.  :icon16: However, I agree with CP in that they wear on you as you get older.  I'm not one who likes the heat but I went to Phoenix in '04 and loved it even when it was in the 90's and 100's.  I guess it's the dry heat.  The car scene is pretty good in Phoenix and there is definitely those with the $$$ if you are looking to do work.  There was some fantastic show'n shines.  There were 4 hemi cars at the one big one I went to.  Their winter is the summer which seems to keep people indoors alot though.  I think the cost of living is reasonable and California is close by!  I have been to NM and it's nice too.

Undelay, Undelay, Arriba, Arriba.... make a run for it Neil!  :jumping:
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

Alberta is getting a bum rap here people,  Its been this way forever here, how many places can you go where you have the great rocky mountains on one side and the prairies on the other. We also have lots of lakes including slave lake which is huge and huge forests. We have an abundance of wildlife (hunting is always good) and you can find a fish in almost any body of water ,I love it here and cant think of anywhere else I would want to live. I know Neil hates the cold, but its always been this way. It was 31 here yesterday, thats 88 for most of you, and thats too dang hot for me. And to top it off, we are in a boom for economy and you can find work anywhere doing anything. Yes the price of living here is high, but general labourers on my crew make 18- 20 dollars an hour and are guarenteed 10 to 12 hours a day. Alberta Rocks, plus we have at least 4 drag strips and at countless 100 foot shoot outs every year.

I'm just curious why the cost of living is so high there. I wouldn't think it was heavily populated, at least where Chryco is, but maybe I'm wrong.  :clueless:

I dont believe the cost of living is really that high here, the oil patch is booming so that wont help and housing has gone through the roof (bout 300k for a mediocer house), but the price of housing will come down , it has before.

Holy Crap, that sounds like the pricing in the Baltimore-Washington D.C. area.  :scared: The only difference is, we don't have oil.  Just Lawyers and Politicians.  :walkaway:

New England/NH area has plenty of mechanics jobs and average cost of living.Drag and circle tracks, lakes, ocean, moutains and winters are shorter and not nearly as bad as yours (but still suck!).

Nowhere on this planet is all good or bad
I am just frustrated & cold all the time here , I dont enjoy the summer at all , it is too short & I am too busy & cannot turn down work as I need the $$ to survive the endless winters , I just do not have to be limited ot a 40 mile radius to look to the future & at least Where you live Shawn the cost of living has not gone totally out of reach Yet & it is definatly a bit warmer

The pricing on housing has jumped over 100k in the last couple of years. It's getting pretty crazy. But there is a job everywhere you turn. I guess all I can say Neil is that maybe it's time to look for a fulltime job in another field that will pay the bills and pick up some extra cash doing what you are now as a side job? :dunno:
