If the name of the MFG begins with a "P", and ends with "alco", enjoy the hard plasticy, not so fitting panels.  :eek4: I went down that Palco road once.  :stomp:

What aftermarket panels did you finally find that were better than the Palcos?

I eventually bought a set of originals on E-Bay that were in great shape.

Good find
Mine are white, chalky, and scratched to hell from the previous owner's little mutt  :crying:
I see decent ones on eBay now and then but they are all black.

For whatever reason, white door panels take the worst of it. They always seem to get dry and chalky. You might want to get a set of another color, and use the spray on SEM dye to dye them white. That stuff works quite well.

Guys, I've said it before and I'll say it again...have Just Dashes re-finish them.  Mine came out great.  Pics are at my website at www.mikes73.com.

Mike:  May I ask what the door panels cost to get refurbished at "Just Dashes?"

Thanks

It was about $950 for all four panels, including return shipping.

Well, if the grain doesn't match, you could always replace all four panels instead of just the doors. I'm sure their grain is the same throughout all their panels.

Thanks for sharing the cost.    Do they "rebuild" the grain?

I guess if you figure that a complete front/rear set of re-pops would probably about $600 or so... about 1/3rd more to have originals "re-done"  isn't all that bad....

The vinyl has the grain in it.  I've heard said that the grain is slightly different, but I don't see it.  They bond new vinyl to the panels and the real advantage is they're your panels so you know they're gonna fit.

I have seen the panels from Just Dashes and personnally I am not impressed. If you are going for an original look then these are not for you. You can tell that they have vinyl installed over the door panels. Yes they look good, but not correct. Currently from my experience the only way to go for correct appearing door panels is to use original panels.

I didn't see where he's doing a concours restoration, but if that's the case you're probably right.  If not, I don't think you'd notice a difference unless viewing them side by side, and when's that gonna happen?  The vinyl is extremely close to the originals (see the photos) and is much more durable than painting.  Plus, any imperfections (scratches, etc.) won't be seen in the new vinyl so, unless you're doing a 100 point-resto, I think you'd be overall happier having them re-finished.  I know I get A LOT of compliments on mine.
