I used to have a 71. Not a very good model, but very rare. Sold it for $175 about 10 years ago.

 

Who makes a good cheap '70 one?  I could probably make my own grill and taillights.

I think the best available Challenger is the 70 Monogram TA, frequently available on ebay for $5.  It has the best, truest lines of any of the Challengr models, IMO. This is the kit I built that has the pics at the beginning of this thread. What do the other builders think?

Now, where can I find a '71 Challenger model?   

There used to be a resin conversion kit available to modify the Monogram/Revell 1:24 1970 kit into a '71.  It included a grille, rear tail light panel, and 1/4 panel scoops.  I think I bought mine from a place called the "Good Stuff" but I am not sure.  I built my '71 hemi R/T perhaps 10 years ago.  I got a 1:24 scale twin scoop hood from a guy in Milwaukee who I think later went out of the custom resin model parts business.  And I had saw an ad for a guy selling 1:24 scale '71 R/T stripe decals.  I wish I'd stocked up on these custom '71 parts at the time, as they were great quality, and I don't know if any of these parts are being sold today?

I had a yellow 70 or 71 Hemi Challenger convertible model for awhile. I bought it unopened from a model shop in Atlanta and it was already collectible at the time. I can't remember if I ended up selling it on e-bay or not. I'll have to check when I get home. Lol Superblue, that looks like my stash at home. That Cuda on the top left is the first Cuda I ever did. I painted it just like that picture and I put the custom "superbirdish" front end on it. I still have it too.

I had a yellow 70 or 71 Hemi Challenger convertible model for awhile.

That was almost certainly the AMT kit. When it comes to Challengers, I think there are only four kits, with several variants and reissues.
1 - The AMT kit, which was simultaneously released as a convertible with a shaker and a hardtop (same body, you had to glue the top on) with the RT hood.
2 - the monogram kit, which has pretty much always been a TA (and was the basis for the AAR)
3 - The 71 kit, which was never reissued (which is why it's both rare and not very accurate)
4 - The Palmer kit.  This is the one with opening doors which is set up for anelectric motor.  It's very inaccurate (the Challenger emblems on the quarters run about one third of the quarter length, and a lot of the body lines look wrong).

Lol Superblue, that looks like my stash at home. That Cuda on the top left is the first Cuda I ever did. I painted it just like that picture and I put the custom "superbirdish" front end on it. I still have it too.

Hmmm....I'm going to have to open up the box and check that out!  I bought it when I was like 10 or something and never put it together.

Funny about the "superbirdish" nose.  The Testors '72 Challenger kit that I have has a nose like that too, looks sort of like a '95 Acura Integra. 

As far as a '71 Challenger, I dunno..... 

I haven't been to Walmart recently but when I was there a few months ago they had a few '70 Challenger kits out.  No '71's.

There are '71 Challenger 1/18 cars out there.  You have to look at hobby stores to find them or Ebay.  No flat hoods though...    Pull it apart and paint it like you like it.

Anyone ever see one of these?  Who would turn a 73 RR into a Baja racer anyway ?

The Palmer kit (released under several different brands) is a 72-74.  If you can get one cheap it's probably good for testing paint schemes, but not much else.   I picked up a promo kit many yers ago for the same idea.

I picked up a few for the same idea! 

The picture in my signature is an  ARII kit with modifications (different wheels and tires, etc..).  They bought over Otaki a long time ago.  These kits can be found on Ebay.  I last got one for like $12 on Ebay.  Can be as high as $30+.  The hood and doors open, they are slightly larger than the regular 1/24 kits, older kits come with a metal differential gear box and wiring and motor for kit, newer versions have the provisions but no electrical stuff.  Steerable.  Engine detail is ok, interior, is, oh well, not too acurate....  metal axles front and rear.  Depending on version, comes with Magnum 500s and/or slotted mags.  Older versions (Otaki, Rock Machine in Hawii series) come with slotted mags that look like brushed aluminum and real rubber tires, molded in Plum Crazy Purple.

Testors makes a kit also, modified, 1/24 scale.  Comes with a Superbird style nose, custom 5 spoke wheels.  I got one on Ebay for $2.50.  Usually under $10 on Ebay.



Palmer made a 1/32 scale one, usually no engine detail, may be a good candidate for slot car body.




There are some older ones by I think MPC that pop up on Ebay here and there but they are very expensive.  There are some junkers on Ebay now.

Oh Just happen to run up on this thread. I love models also. Used to build alot but its been about 5 yrs now since I have built one. Still been buying plenty to one day build or? here is some pics [Pardon the mess I have run out of room in the single wide Trailer I Bought to keep them in] the first one is one of the 72 73 Challengers old one from oversees with opening doors. then just some wall shots or junk shots.
