Is this a smokin' deal on a red TA?
« on: May 28, 2007 - 01:50:27 PM »
Just curious, has the market leveled off this much or did the seller mess up by not putting a reserve on it along with ending on a holiday weekend?  Seems to be a very good price unless I'm missing something obvious.  :clueless:

Where is the antenna? Looks like a steal if it is legit. Cannot read the build sheet and there is no shot of the vin plate or data tag.

I was looking for the antenna too. You can definitely see the black one has one that's also in the pix.  No radio?  Here's the data tag, it's there.

Dont get me wrong, I dont want the hobby to crash but I sure would love it if the prices came back down to earth so the everyday joe could afford one. I dont know how many super deals I passed up in my red eyed youth but now that I have a somewhat clear mind, the cars are in the stratosphere lol.

This one is not coded for a radio. No radio, no antenna.  ;)

Is it the norm for the ID data plate to be just screwed on like that? with PK / Phillips  screws?

Yep.  There is a certain size head thats used.  On the cars with one tag the left head is painted body color cause the tag is bent up so paint can be shot under the tag and then the other head is natural color.  I dont know for sure which heads get painted with two tag cars.
Maybe the bookend heads are painted and the center head is natural.  :dunno:

*disclaimer* The factories did things different and some tags were (un) painted off the fender.

Supposedly it doesn't have the original engine in it so that probably  kept the bids down.  :dunno:

There's no radio on the dash so it makes sense no antenna.

Barry, you think this was a good deal or not?  :clueless:

The non-original engine is what did it.  I saw a non-original engine Plum Crazy T/A go for $35K last year.  That T/A engine adds to value, for sure.

The screws will not always match, I have seen three different size screws on untouched two tag cars. Most two tag cars had the tags held on with the center screw, so it got painted and the other two were added later.

As far as value goes, I have no clue, I do not watch the sale prices at all.

Numbers matching, fully restored T/A's seem to be going in the 50's. This one is a NOM, driver quality vehicle. I would expect that kind of price.
