Seat Belts
« on: May 28, 2007 - 09:01:41 PM »
I thought before I start my next project on my car I would get help from all the "Mopar Brainiacs" on this sight. How difficult is it to add aftermarket 3-point seat belts in my 74 Cuda?

I'm not sure if the my '73 is the same as '74 but I added the Wesco 3 point retractable belts.  They aren't stock replicas but they look good (and new). http://wescoperformance.stores.yahoo.net/resebe.html  I did it a couple of years ago so I don't remember the details but I believe they bolted right in.

Is this a trick question ?

All 74s came with 3 point belts.   Even so, most people find the stock setup in '74s too sensitive.

NZ has a nice aftermarket set of belts in his car  :2thumbs:

OK so someone changed them out, probably long ago. All Mopar passenger cars got the 3 point system in 1974. I think you can get away with the seatbelt setup out of a '74 B-body as they look very similar. I have never measured them but I still have the set out of my '74 Charger I could check out for you.

The seatbelts are the easiest way to tell a '73 from a '74 'CUDA or Challenger without looking at the VIN

Check if you have the special rear interior panels that house the driver's and passenger's shoulder seatbelt retractors. The '74 only interior panels have little slots below  the armrests that let the belt go through.
It sounds to me like you need those too.

I put the wesco performance conversion van seat belts with the 7" drop sash in my car, they bolt into stock holes and are REALLY nice.  Lemme know if you'd like some pics.

I'd like some pics.....I have to replace my seat belts on mt 74. I have the cut outs in the side rear panels for the seat belt mounts.

Thanks

Sorry the first pic is a little crappy, reused all stock mounting holes, they are quite comfortable.

Can anybody tell me if I decide to put a 4-point harness in my 74 Cuda if I will be able to use the stock seat belt mounting holes?

I am using the stock holes for my lap belts on '72 but the shoulder belts are bolted to the roll bar in the correct position per NHRA
