No second gear!!
« on: May 28, 2007 - 09:12:44 PM »
The car will shift into second while stationary, but won't go into second while its moving.  All other gears work fine.  Ideas?

Is the linkage in a bind?

Nope, fixed that earlier   I think it might just be total adjustment of the linkage.  I think I'm going to pull it all off and start from scratch on adjustment.

hmm...just called brewers performance and the guy said that its probably our synchro for second gear isn't getting a grip on the cone.  We have amsoil synthetic in it, so he says put regular gear lube in it so it doesn't lubricate as much :roflsmiley:  Anyone else have this problem?

If the Rods and shifter stops (if it has them) are adjusted correctly :iagree: w/brewers. If the synchros are worn, they will have a hard time getting through a slicker (synthetic) oil to grab the driven gear. Kinda like how you're not supposed to run synthetic when breaking in an engine because it will prevent the rings from seating.
The 2nd gear synchro is pretty common to wear out first.
Is this a stock shifter/rods?
Will it go in if you double clutch it?

Well I re-adjusted the linkage and can get second gear without replacing the fluid(all the internals are brand new, new synchros, bearings, etc etc etc.)  It doesn't feel terribly positive, but it does drive in second gear now :roflsmiley:
