Anyone else invest?
« on: June 05, 2007 - 06:04:57 AM »
Well, after too many years of handling my finances poorly, I have turned over a new leaf. I have been studying all I can about investing. I have been heavily researching the stock market, currency market, and real estate. When I get home, I am selling my 71 Javelin ($3200 firm if anyone is interested), my 86 CJ7 Jeep Wrangler (haven't decided on price), a big portion of my hotwheels collection, all of my old BMX gear and bikes, and my R/C cars. I hope to get about $12k to invest.
Does anyone else here invest and if you don't mind talking about finances, what do you invest in? How have you diversified and how has it worked out for you? Any tips for a newby investor? I'm not doing any of this blindly. I have changed my attitude on money and spending and have read several books along with tons of internet resources to help me take control of my finances and hopefully see some nice future returns.

Buy low sell high. Look at Paychex (payx). This is a solid performer, and has split for me about 4 times.

I took the profits from my Purple Cuda & invested in the stock market in the fall of 99 , I felt I needed to do something about retiring & securing a future , I put in close to 40k watched it double .... it is now worth under 10 k & dropping fast , I figure I can retire for about 5 months now ....should have bought a frigging Hemi car  :banghead: at least I could have enjoyed driving it  :burnout:

I made 100% profit in 2 years on my last Cuda.  Let me know if you find anything better than that. :money:

401K can be as good or better than that if your employer matches your contribution.

if you're not in the market now I'd research and be ready to jump in, but I'd wait.
Everything stockwise is way overpriced with the record breaking run up in the DOW.

Wait for the next catastrophe (inevitable unfortunately real or imagined) then buy in low at the bottom of the crash.
Then once you're in...you're in.

Also (unfortunately) you should invest a good % (40-50) in international stock funds (foreign), 'cuz the old USA seems to be shooting themselves in the foot alot lately when it comes to business.

Although I'm brand new at this, I feel I should pass this along to my fellow moparians. Are any of you aware of the April 5th Supreme Court ruling on carbon dioxide? It ruled that it is a harmful gas that contributes to global warming. Now whether one believes in global warming or not, this new ruling gives the government new power to regulate it. They, and tons of industries around them are pushing for cleaner air sources of power. I don't know if you know this, but wind power is set to be huge in the future. One company Americas Wind Energy, Inc. has a very efficient, really brilliant design on their wind towers. Their design makes their towers operate MUCH more efficiently than previous designs. They are set to be caught up in the near future surge of wind tower demand. Their share costs were just recently a very affordable .90 per share. It is already up to $1.24. If even very modest projections are correct and they get just 3% of the 28 billion dollar projected demand, shares are expected to rise to $38.40 and beyond. If you invested $5000 at the .90 a share, you could stand to pocket $208,000 in a years time. Not bad.

IRA's are a good stable investment for the most part.

It was also at $2.64 in the last year. Could be a good buy.
Believe it or not there are environmental problems even with the wind power. Noise, killing endangered birds,  :violin: etc. and people don't like to look at them.

IRA's are good but you still have to decide what to invest in within the IRA.

I think with the new rulling though, that the pros will most definitely weigh out the cons. Wind energy is way more popular than even solar energy now and is picking up steam.
