Coelacanth (see-la-canth)

Hmmm.. respectfully, I don't think so.  The Coelacanth doesn't have that type of teeth and different coloring.  Also they have longer front fins that "resemble" legs as that's why scientists think they are the "missing link" of how in the evolutionary process fish came on to land and became mammals.  (They're wrong though!!!!!!  )

I like NZ's thought that it's a Tiger fish, although this one is bigger than any images I could find.

I just found some info.  Here's an article.

Looks like it's a Goliath Tigerfish!!!  :scared:

When the payara clamps its mouth shut, these 4-6 inch fangs fit nicely through corresponding sockets in the upper jaw. These great predators attack upward, impaling prey with their fangs and then swallowing them whole and head first.

I think that Super Blue hit it on the nose (although I wouldn't), the picture that he posted of the man holding the fish was in the group that I received.

I think that I would rather have an encounter with one of these rather than the one that swims up your Ureatha (sp?)

I resent that. People that shoot a big target like a deer or Moose from 20 metres are worse (no sport, it's easy to do). Sharks are plentiful, Great Whites are protected, catch and release is part of the sport. It's no different from fishing for a gold fish or trout just a bigger, meaner, size. I'm not out to kill but if I catch a 6+ meter plus Mako and he's in bad shape chances are he'll have no teeth by days end. I don't fish to kill/eat, it's sport and as a huge fan of the past time I do everything in my power to protect and maintain our coastlines and species. We have a very abundant and lively ocean life down here and it's because we are sea mad, not everyone goes out to rip jaws from fish. I fish from land too, no boat, no 10 member crew, me vs shark (plus one gaffer and one driver). Sport fishing to it's most extreme.

NZ, I was referring to killing GWS which is what I think that is.   also how bout the people that just kill them just for their fins.

I believe in catch and release unless you plan to make Dinner out of it. Trophy killing and not eating it is really what I don't like.

True, but not all shark fisherman kill for fins or trouphys so I read your comment as "all" shark fisherman. It's like saying everyone who has a gun is a serial killer. No drama, just, I pride myself on looking after what we have and applauded the White Pointers protection law when it came about here in May. Whale killings get me angry, 1,000 whales every month for research, pull the other one Japan.  >:( I fish for sport first, if the fish is damaged or hurt during the fight that is just part of the sport. I would never just leave it there, I'd use what I could to make sure nothing went to waste. Though, as I said, all my fishing is done purely for sporting purposes. www.nzlbgfishing.com
