Steering column install
« on: June 08, 2007 - 10:49:47 PM »
Ok need help with installing a steering column in a 70 challenger convert, I did not take the car apart but am putting it together, and dont now how to start, have the old column, old power steering pump in place, a new bushing kit (metal bushings, a couple of roll pins, piece of cardboard?, rubber piece, and firewall gasket).. do I need anything else? Any and all insight on installing would be awsome.

the kit you have will rebuild the coupler , it has to have the spring to the side to locate the Shoes / blocks correctly inside the coupler , there is a small notch on the bottom lip of the coupler , it aligns with the master spline on the steering box

CP, have the spring in the kit. amazing how all this fits together and thanks for your help. The cardboard is for? Do I grease the bushings and pack the coupler or not?

there is a small pin in the coupler kit to lock the shoes into the coupler , it drives into a pin hole at the top of the coupler
pack the coupler with grease
I have no clue what the small piece of cardboard is for or why every kit has it .... anyone else know ??
