Newbie from Idaho
« on: June 12, 2007 - 03:22:36 AM »
Well I finally decided to introduce myself and my car, now that I got it on the road.  I bought it about three years ago from a mustang guy who had it just sitting in his driveway.  It was a real mess, no engine or trans, etc.  It hadn't been registered since 1989 and probably would have been parted out if I hadn't bought it.  As a student I don't have much time or money so it is being built on a budget (if that's possible with these cars).  I finally got it on the road and registered last week.  Here's a quick rundown on it:  440 and 727 out of a 76 New Yorker I got for free with 80K on them, 8 3/4 rear, Rewired whole car with Painless Mopar harness, built my own fiberglass dash with all aftermarket guages, hedman hedders, dual 3" flowmasters, racing seats with 4 pt harnesses.  Wheels and tires are 17x9 in back with 275/40's and 17x8 in front with 245/45's.

Welcome to the site.

Okay, I've gotta ask, how much does one of those 17x9 steel wheels weigh?

Hey, thanks for the reply.  Yeah, it was probably the harder way to do things, I coulda probably just saved more money and bought a runner/driver, but it feels good to have rescued a fine piece of mopar machinery.  Oh I forgot to mention it's a 73 originally a 318 auto car.  And when I got it it had this ugly flame paint job on it, which appeared to be about the 7th layer of paint.  Now it has had a rattle-can resto in Krylon Rust Tough in semi-flat black :ylsuper:

HP2-
I've never actually weighed them, but I remember when they came in the mail I was surprised that they didn't weigh more.  I chose them for two reasons, first cause they are black and totally go with the "no bling" kinda vibe I'm going for.  Second, they are 17's for $60 a wheel!!  If you really wanna know a weight I will weigh the wheel/tire combo next time I have one off for ya.

Wow, thanks for the warm welcome.  As for color, I think I am going to paint it semi-gloss black, similar to what it is now, just with better paint and not till I get the body work done.  I love the bright glossy mopar colors, but for me, for this car, I want the subdued look.  As for how much I have in it, I bought it for $2000, which at the time I thought was pretty expensive for a project, but I sure haven't seen any e-bodies at all within 500miles of here for under $4500 since then, regardless of condition.  So far the only real big expenses have been the exhaust and wheels and tires, but there has been a ton of couple hundred dollar purchases.  The seats, the B&M shifter, gas tank and sending unit, etc.  For the last year I was working part time at a Schuck's auto parts store, so the discount came in handy on brake parts and all that kind of stuff.  Overall at this point I probably have somewhere in the $5-6K range in it if you add up all the sand paper and spray paint and all that.  As for the dash, this pic is the best I have.  The dash itself is actually made entirely from supplies from Wal-Mart and cost me about $50.  I used to do a lot of boat work so I have some fiberglass experience.  Including the headlight switch, gauges, and indicator lights, grand total in the dash is $250.  As you can see in the pic, the floors aren't great (new ones going in this weekend) and thats the battery cable on the floor as I mounted the battery in the trunk.
