Hello from a Newb in Manitoba Canada
« on: June 16, 2007 - 09:26:20 AM »

Hello to all!

My name is Jay, and I live in Winnipeg Manitoba Canada. I have a 1970 Barracuda Gran coupe that needs a lot of work (rust issues). Unfortunately, it is in storage until I part out the 64 valiant that is in my garage right now. It was going to be my first resto project, but I decided it doesn't make sense investing in this car where I will never get any of the money back if I decided to sell at some point. The Barracuda is a much better investment. It also has history, as my Dad bought it in the early 70s, and is the second owner. I am sure I will have a ton of questions for everyone, and hopefully I will be able to answer some as well.

Jay

Hey Jay,    Good idea to invest in the Barracuda, Welcome to CC.C... Caution, you may get motivated to get moving on that resto if you hang out here much.

Hey Jay!  Ha, it rhymes.

Any '70 cuda is a great investment.  However, like bullitt said, sticking around here may get you a little too motivated.   :lol2:

Tell us more, color, engine, etc.  Got pics?  We love pics.

Well, here's some info about the car.

I *think* the original color was Vitamin C, with red interior, but it is currently a metallic marroon color with the interior half converted to grey.

It's a 318 with automatic. I assume its a 904 tranny and 7.25 differential, but haven't seen the car in quite a while, and wouldn't have known what I was looking at, at that time.

Like I said, it has rust issues, and I am sure that many would only consider it a parts car. But, becuase of the family history of the car, I'm willing to spend the time and money restoring it. It needs quarters and at least one fender. I also think one torsion bar mounts may have failed. The car currently has a 72-74 grill (not sure what year, or if they even differ in those years)on it due to an accident in the 80's. It probably needs floors now, and possibly the trunk floor as well.

Wow... it's kind of depressing when I write all out all the work that needs to be done.... :-[

Unfortunately, I have no recent pictures of it.  But rest assured there is a LOT of work in my future...   :working:

   Hi Jay!  Welcome!

Yeah, kinda depressing but just take it one step at a time.  The family history will definately be a great inspiration to draw on.  Wish my car was one that my Dad bought in the '70s.  If that was the case I would have a '74 Chrysler Town & Country wagon in the driveway!!!  :roflsmiley:

There's lots of nice people here with great advice.  Just ask, people will respond.  A '70 Barracuda is cool!  :cooldancing:

Welcome fellow Canuck, you'll love it here. Great people, great advice and great info. As for your project, all the best. Actually, you're quite lucky. There's a ton of quality reproduction parts out today that weren't available when some off us first did our cars, even full quarter panels from Goodmark. Get 'em soon though, they're saying their supplies are limited.

Welcome to the site, Jay!  It sounds like you'll be doing quite a bit of work with your 'Cuda, but it'll be worth it in the end. :2thumbs:  The only thing that would worry me is the torsion bar problem.  Hopefully it's just a broken torsion bar because to my knowledge nobody is creating reproduction tb crossmembers.
