Nothing is ever easy, is it?
« on: June 16, 2007 - 10:27:16 AM »
Thought I would do a simple project and switch my fixed fan to clutch style.  Well, it turns out the small fixed fan was on there for a reason.  Car has a 26" radiator, sounds good, but car should have the smaller radiator.  Turns out the radiator was shifted over towards the driver's side, no room for normal fan.

So, I had to take everything out and recenter the radiator.  Once this was done everything fits great.

On the plus side, I was able to pick up a brand new Mopar clutch fan for only $65 (shipping included).  Sometimes you can get good deals on ebay.

Great looking engine bay!  On my 496 Cuda, I finally went to an aluminum radiator and electric fan. Rarely have to turn on the fan. Car runs 20 degrees cooler on average. And no mechanical fan means more horsepower.

Looks good Catfish.  My car definately ran a little cooler when I did the fan swap and I noticed a few hp too.  How bout you? What brand aluminum radiator do you have cudabob496?  I'm on the look out for a replacement for my car.

I think for about $250 I went with a Howe. They had them in Summit, but one dimension wasn't right, so I called Howe directly and they fabbed it up for me at virtually no extra cost.

Thanks guys, can't tell any difference in temperature, but I'm happy with the way it turned out.  It runs quieter, the fixed fan made the belts squeal, so this one must not be loading the motor as much.  I didn't have to loosen the belts to put it on, so the lack of noise is a good indicator.
