Dumb question
« on: June 17, 2007 - 07:57:42 PM »
Someone slap me.  I need to know quarts of engine oil for my '71 383.  I should know this, but I've never had a big block before.   :walkaway: :dupe: :banghead:

I am pretty sure it is 5 quarts, but you may want to double check with Chryco.

5 sounds like the magic number to me.  Put in 5 and check the level after a quick startup and you check your oil pressure.     :working:

Running with 5 quarts in a big block makes me a little nervous, but if it needs to be stock, let'r be!
72 Cuda, owned 25 years. 496, with ported Stage VI heads, .625 in solid roller, 254/258 at .050, 3500 stall, 3.91 rear. 850 Holley DP, Reverse manual valve body.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"

Hey thanks guys.  I figured it was 5.  I put 5 in it this morning, and it came just barely over the "Full" mark.  So I figure when I fire it up and fill the filter, It'll be about right.  Thanks!
