70 Challenger bumpers....Best source?? They are here!!
« on: June 18, 2007 - 08:45:55 PM »
Called YearOne today.......$520 a set and $97 shipping, however they are on national backorder and do not have a delivery date or even an estimated delivery date.  I have both but they need rechroming.  I have checked around a little and think it is cheaper to get new ones.   Anyone know where????????????

You might try Layson's Restorations.
www.laysons.com
We had a set of Challenger bumpers rechromed and although the chrome was real good, they didn't get the contour correct on the front (it didn't dip down in the middle) so we had to bring it back a couple of times until they got it right, so I'm a little leery about rechroming. My only dealings with layson's are for some small parts and a speedo rebuild which they did a fantastic job on.  They're very accommodating on the phone.

Just to throw this out there, $300 or so seems to be the going rate for rechroming. Considering Tri-City isn't all that far from you Dayley, I wouldn't dismiss the idea just yet if you aren't in a hurry.

Holy cow...That's the going rate?!  :o

I talked to Tri-Cities, because I heard so much good about them.  I thought that $295 (x2), plus $60 each for the bumper guards was ridiculous.  I am planning to get mine done around Detroit here, where the rates are a lot less.

I just cannot justify paying more for re-chroming bumpers than new ones cost from Y1.  Maybe a lot of us are in the same situation that Dayley is facing now!

Not to hijack but is it the general consensus that the repopped bumpers are not the way to go? I have several Chally bumpers but all need to be repaired and plated to be worthy. I was thinking about buying the repo bumpers but never asked about the depth of chrome or quality of the bumpers.

I bought a set of the y1 bumpers for my 71 cuda that I sold, and they are good bumpers, but definately not the best. If you are building a high end show car get some replated. If you are building a super serious car, there is a plater in sac that is really awesome, but they start at 750 a bumper.

You may want to check these guys out in Florence, AL.  They have been around for a long time.  I have always heard that they are the best, but have never had occasion to use them.  From their website: "You can expect impeccable results from Graves Plating....
That's the service we've been providing since 1945."

I plan on taking some of my stuff over for an estimate the next time I am in that area.  I have no idea what to expect price wise. :bananasmi

Another thought is Stevens Performance, Moparal was going to go there & exchange his for some ready to go, don't know that he ever did. They are here in N.Alabama about an hour from me.

The YO bumpers are made by Keystone.  I think they look pretty good, but my old ones are junk anyways.

Tom, in that second pic it looks like the holes are rusty on the new one, too?   :clueless:
