I have scene this car on plenty of sites for sale over the last couple of years.  Never something that interested me, but I always wondered why it was always for sale?  Makes since now.

Hi Barry,When you say the fonts are wrong, can you post a picture of what they should look like.I have looked at a few cars in my area, and the numbers look the same.

One of our members restored this car years ago.  I remember him responding to a post I did a while back.  He sold the car non numbers matching and may still have the original engine in his garage, if I remember right.  He may respond again.  I personally really like the color combination.  Here is a 383 numbers stamping from my numbers matching 70 Challenger, complete with the original grease.

I'll make 'er side by side for us memory challenged folks...   :smilielol:

The numbers on the restamped one are wider, look at the "O". The "B" on the restamped one also has little fringes on the top and bottom, left of the vertical line on the "B"

Just a few things I noticed.   :swaying:

Another thing I noticed is my original block has swirl marks where it was surfaced with a stone before being stamped.  It had 2 passes made on it.  The restamped block may just have heavy paint but it almost looks sandblasted.

that's too bad.

$85k for a v-code RT/SE w/buildsheet is really not that bad.  Especially w/that color combo.  Just gotta wonder if any of the other stuff is legit (like the buildsheet itself).

How much are V-code Challys w/non-numbers going for these days?

I went on line and looked at the rest of his pictures. I got a bad feeling. The best thing to come out of this is having this board where knowledge and common sense can keep honest people from making a mistake.

I've noticed GrangeDodge has been quite silent since his post. Probably doesn't have much to say.  :clueless: Maybe a big OOPS & a drop in price to save face if that's at all possible at this point???  :pullinghair: Once you lose face, it's a tough thing to get back. Something I've been trying to teach to my child!!

Yes, that car used to be mine. I restored it back in the 1980's, and sold it around 1991. First off, I don't want to point fingers, but when I restored it, it was a non original engine and trans. The engine was a cast crank 440 intercepter engine from around 1972, which the seller gave me with the car, along with the transmission. The car looks nearly identical as when I sold it, with the exception of the carpet, which for some reason was changed to black from burnt orange, and the chin spoilers. It was a shell when I bought it, and I did a ground up (amatuer) restoration on it. Remember, this was the 80's, and the cars were not worth that much back then. The burnt orange/column shift always bothered me. I came really close to putting a black houndstooth interior that I had with the floor shift, but then I decided to keep it as original as possible. I did dye the dash and door panels, as burnt orange parts were just not available. I redid the headliner and overhead console also.

Basically, the interior and underneath look like they were not touched since I restored them in the 80's. I cleaned and painted the underneath black (it was white!) The interior looks as if it held up rather well. The engine compartment looks untouched, as does the exterior paint. I painted the door jambs, underhood, and the trunk, then I had a local shop paint the exterior. It looks like the same paint, buffed out alot, but I cannot be sure. The hood tape treatment and luggage rack were original options. I did add the af/fm radio.

I had a line on a previous owner who may have had the original engine in Virginia. I could never get in contact with him. Possibly someone who owned it after me found the original engine, although I would really find that hard to believe. As I said, most of the car looks untouched since I restored it. Also, the carburators and intake were not original, and they were parts I collected for the restoration. Back in the 80's matching numbers on engines and trannys really weren't all that common on these cars.

I have seen this car on ebay for awhile now, a dealer in Long Island was posting it. Now it apparently is in New Jersey. I have no idea why. I always felt that although rare, it was not really a desirable car, because of the interior color and column shift.

Any other questions please feel free to ask.

I just checked and he was last active on this site today.  I wonder why he hasn't responded?  :dunno:
Maybe he got screwed on the car by someone else.  If he did I feel sorry for him.
I guess the question is did he know the whole story?  He should now after this post & should change his ad.

Well if he really got screwed by someone else that's sad, not funny. But as I stated before, I'm always suspect of someone who only posts, or at least mainly posts, about cars they are trying to sell.

It is a shame if the car was misrepresented to him.  It does seem like a tall price for a non-matching numbers car considering what I paid for Rev's RT/SE.  It is really bothersome when someone gets something other than what was presented.
Best of luck on your sale.
