...........what they are doing with the diesel trucks now days. It is crazy,the money people spend on beefing up their trannies to with stand all the torque they are making these engines put out.

My buddy has a ENORMOUS chip in his '04 Cummins.  He pulls a tractor, and trailers it to nearby tractor pulls.  Tranny finally blew on him 2 weeks ago.  He got some brand new super duty built auto tranny for it that just came out, supposedly.  The things they can do with these diesels are insane.  I have a few friends.  One drives a Cummins, the other two, power joke and duramax. 

I live in WI, were hicks, we drive big trucks, and we pull tractors.  Got a problem with that?  LOL.   :lol:

Hey tactransman, Got a question for you..........

Sorry for the double post but it just hit me.....  My 1st generation Cummins has an automatic and I'd like to convert it over to one of the NEW model 6 speed standards.  I know they make conversion kits for the 1st generation auto to the old getrag 5 speed, but I don't want that.  Since your the tranny guru, I thought you might know some details?  I've already turned up my pump, and plan on at least a 16cm turbo housing and maybe some POD injectors, but I'm not sure that my little ol stock 518 will hold very long with just those mods, much less more in the future.  (Not to mention my preference over an automatic).

Its a 93 model.  I know swap to a beefier auto would be easier, I'm just partial to that stick.  :burnout: Some people would say "Then buy another truck with a stick"  I like my truck and with the steal I got on it, the cost difference even after the conversion, would still be cheaper than another truck.

If it were me I would stay with the 618,I don't do sticks so I don't know much about the stick shift problems and upgrades.

I've heard of truck diesels that pull over 2200 ft lb of torque!  That was a couple of years ago so may be they will do more now.  I think they had propane injection too.

I'd like to convert it over to one of the NEW model 6 speed standards.

I have a 6 spd in my 01 CTD and it really seems to be best suited for heavy towing. It shifts heavy and the gear spacing (ratios) isn't really ideal for use as a daily driver. I didn't really care which tranny I got when I bought my truck, I just wanted the diesel. Looking back I should have found a 5 spd truck instead for the type of driving I actually do. Of course, your results may differ though. :2cents:

That's pretty crazy...Just one thing I need to clarify...Propane injection is actually used primarily for the turbo in the truck, not necessarily just for diesels.  I've seen it done to turbo cars and like what was mentioned, I too used to think it was strictly for a power adder to diesel engines. :thumbsup:

at the end of the video, it says "custom NOS kit by ________". Won't nitro blow the heads off a diesel (or just turn it into a bomb)? Or do they just not care?

... like streetchallenged & HSD said, propane. or water injection. NOS? thats a new one on me. I wanna know how long before a re-build. IF its still re-buildable.


Oh, on the "hick" note....... I have friends with trucks like that who work em. Pullin HUGE horse trailers and whatever else the occasion calls. last I checked on my buddy with a Dodge like that it was makin like 600 horses and in & around 1000 lbs. Nuts... that was like 4 yrs ago. He's quadrupled it since then. Haven't talked to him about it though. I love it. Trucks are awesome. :wavingflag:  :wavingflag:

From what I have been told by my customers that I have beefed up the trannies in,they don't use much NOs in 'em just a "small shot" .
