Fried Wires? ** Updated 7-08-07 **

The problem is in your front wiring harness. That is where the fuseable link is, and whatever else it melted. If you have eliminated the switch, that is the only place it can be. Just for the record, did you unplug the headlight switch, or the headlight switch and dimmer switch?

unplugged the headlight switch.....not the dimmer.  But you are right, I traced the wires back to the harness on the firewall and when I wiggle them around, the lights come on and off.  I also noticed when the lights are off, the ignition doesn't turn over either. As Pooh would say "A very large bother!"     

So looks like I need a new front wiring harness huh?  Where can I get one?  Are they hard to replace?  What kind of timeline am I looking at??

New wiring harnesses are available from a # of sources , Year one is good but expensive , Evans is reasonable but some have had problems with wires not located properly

I put a Year One harness on my front. It was pretty simple to do.

yes...sorry the link didn't work.  So that is the right one?  Damn that's expensive...but I tried calling my local Dodge dealer and he said they have none across america.  He gave me Layson's phone number to try.  not too sure who they are, but he said they deal with old cars and stuff.  We'll see what they say.

For the 10% difference in price their is no comparison between a Year One and an Evans harness.  Evans DOES NOT make ANY harnesses for Year One.

Hey all....just got in from working on the Cuda for about an hour....turns out the harness seems fried.  I took it off at the firewall and looked at the connections....the power (red) seemed like it melted the plastic casing and the metal connector seemed burnt.

Do you think it's worth it to unravel all the tape and see if the wires are melted together anywhere or just get a new harness?  $220.00

IF the terminals at the bulkhead connector are good spicing a few wires would not be that big a deal..IMO...$220 round here is a lot-a-loot.

I think you may have misread my quote.  What I was saying was, would it be worth it to undo all the tape from the harness and look at all the wires to see if there's a short somewhere in the wiring that I could fix easily, OR am I just better off buying a new harness.  I definately wouldn't leave it in the condition it is in and just drive around in it.
