71 owners. Do you have this problem?
« on: June 24, 2007 - 08:56:45 AM »
My purple car must be a late 71 build (no door sticker). It is full of 72 parts. Bumpers - sloted, one seat 71 style one seat 72 style and many other little things on this car are 72 type.  :pullinghair:

Any one else have this problem???  ???

It seems like they used whatever parts were on hand at the time.... Very frustrating sometimes....  :stomp:

Dave,

Do you know the hisory of your car? Maybe some previous owner made some swaps?  :dunno: I can understand the bumper thing, but having seats from 2 different years sounds fishy. What other 72 things ya got??

 :iagree:
The seats being different sounds like a swap by previous owner.

My 71 has 70 style seats in it because it use to be my girlfriends car and her ex-boyfriend put the seats out of his 70 in it because she didn't like the color of the upholstery that came stock in it! so now I am stuck with the 70 seats because he got rid of the 71 seats!!   :screwy:

One of the seats getting changed out I agree could have been a swap. Bumpers, bumper jack, and some other small things that don't matter like clips and things are different.

I know the factory must had did some of this, The car my trailer was made from was a 71 with a build date of late 1970. It had the 70 style wiper motor and some other 70 stuff on it, that I know was factory.

I just wanted to know if others have see things like this also.

So your car has the slotted bumpers from a 72, and a jack the has the hook too? I say you might be right about a late year 71 if that is true. I have 72 bumpers on my car(don't tell, it's what I could find). I had to find a later year jack with the "hook".  :icon16:

:sly: Hmmmmm....at least the way I understand it is that the model year will have previous year stuff, not the year after it.  For instance your '71 would more likely have '70 stuff on it and not the '72 stuff.  Weird stuiff does happen but unless you have acurate info from the original owner, anything could've happened to your car over the last 30+ years.

My '72 Challenger Rallye has a '71 Rallye dash from the factory and has not been changed.  This was verified by the original owner.  It has the 8K tach, instead of the 7K tach, and the resets for the gauges through the wood trim on the dash face, and not through the lenses of the gauges.

Now if it had one of those left over '71 Hemi things......  :hyper:  :roflsmiley:

Mine starts with 40xxxx, and my gas tank which was from a 72-up and it has the slotted front bumper.  But my jack bracket was for the 71.  I guess it could be possible your's is from the factory, but it is possible that someone swapped them at one time.

Mine is 329xxx, we're not too far apart!  Only 6000

If I remember correctly, I have both bumpers solid, no slots.  My scheduled production date was 3-71.  Is that early or late?
I have a '70 console, but I think its non-original, I can see green wearing through the black.   :eek4:

Both my seats have the chrome push button on the side, if that makes any difference.

Cant think of anything else weird.   :clueless:

:aarg:Kingtrol dig the pic. Re bumpers, I have seen a Mopar jack with an adaptor for both bumpers. So maybe it could have been. Cudas used 2 bumpers that year, #3464052   #3595035  befor and after June 1. Challengers used 3 bumpers 70 bumper to Feb.  #3595062 to June 1 and#3595032 after. This was mandated by the feds.
