drip moulding and door stickers..what to do?
« on: June 25, 2007 - 07:53:58 AM »
Ok, my cuda goes in for paint in approx a month. The guy wants me to prep the door jams. However, I do have the org door sticker still on. Should I just tape over & sand around? Peel off, somehow.. or what?

Also, how do I remove the driprail mouldings? special tool needed or clips to replace? If I do take it off, how difficult is it to replace? Thanks for everyone's help. Pictures are always appreciated!

You can get new build decals from here:

http://www.ecsautomotive.com/oscmax/

Removing the drip rails is more involved since you will need to remove the wether stripping to get to the screws that holds it on.

Well you can not remove the sticker, it will destroy it, so you will have to tape it off.

The hardest part of removing the drip rail is getting the foam tape to let go.  You can try using a heat gun to soften it up before pulling on it.

One way I have been able to save stickers like that is to use Shelf paper.  Go to Walmart and buy the clear shelf paper in the home decorating section. Cut off a piece bigger then you need and stick it on over the original sticker. Then use an exacto knife or razor blade and trace out the outline of the sticker and remove the excess.

Now you can clean the area prime and paint without disturbing the sticker and when your done you just peal off the shelf paper revealing the sticker :2thumbs:

As far a drip molding goes you can remove the weather stripping to get to the screws but you want to use a electric drill with a phillips bit to get the screws out.  There are lots of screws in layers so make sure you get them all before you start pulling on the chrome.
The screws are hard to see in all the black goop that the factory slathers on  :scared:
Using a little heat is a good idea but really it's a matter of working them from the back foward and kinda rock them back and forth before they let go  :2thumbs:

360- thank you. I do believe I will tape off the door sticker & keep it org for sure. However, i'm a little leary on the drip mouldings, because there is alot of painted on goop. so i'm not sure how to even get to the screws..??

You can feel and see them but you have to press hard with the drill to get them to seat in the bit
