There's one on ebay right now:

I've got a replacement for mine, because I have similar problems, but it's a 70 Challenger U code convertible and probably worth the effort!?!

Yours looks just like mine did, I had a piece from a cuda that was bad in the lower front area that I spliced in.  Turned out great too!

I am working on my cowl but on the passenge side of the car. I bought a bead rolling machine and formed the patch panels out of some sheet metal. After 5 panels I am starting to get the hang of this metal working a little. I'm used to wood  :icon16: Heres my progress so far.

Yours looks good!  Unfortunately, mine is bad at the bottom along the seam also. >:(  The bottom firewall is pretty good, so I hope to just splice the top firewall in and replace the entire cowl, since I have two to work with.

Mine needed some small patching there.  If I did it again, I would have removed the cowl, but its good now.  I dumped in por-15 style paint and spun it on the rotisserre to get it all around inside.  You can also see I replaced the a-pillars, which were totally gone and the front of the roof/window opening(same on the rear).  That was definetly the worst part of the car.

You can see I have to do some of the same on my convertible.  I hope I can patch it in.  Not much chance of finding a replacement for a convertible!  Like yours, this the worst part of the car.  Good thing I'm working on a diploma in Welding and Joining Technology at a local college and at the age of 64 at that!

I do not know of any difference between a convertible cowl and a hardtop cowl.

Neither do I!  We had moved past the cowl/firewall and were discussing the a-pillars and window openings: ;)

We are having fun though!  I got some encouragement a month or so ago at a Mopar show in Atlanta.  This guy has been working TEN YEARS on this car almost identical to mine except his is a 383 and mine is a 440. He said it had been setting out with the top down for five years when he got it!  :bananasmi

You guys are making me feel better and better about this project!  I believe I can repair mine after seeing what you have started with and accomplished!  Thanks for the inspiration!  I've got to finish stripping it down, get it on the rotisserie, get it media blasted, and start in the other direction!!!

That one went for $1000 and the other part went for $1200

One question I have is if they reproduced cowls for our cars would they be made of that thin gauge steel ?  It seem to me that strength in that area is very important and that cheap sheetmetal would not be a good idea
