« on: June 28, 2007 - 10:39:31 AM »
:pullinghair: :stomp: :swear: Just took the car for a spin around the complex at work, and I found something to fix, Heater Core. I hope i can get his done by 5:00pm because I really wanted to drive it tonight.  Parts should be here by 3:00. How long should this take?

If you can change the heater core in 2hrs I might think about swapping mine.  I thought it was pretty involved though.

On a non-A/C car not too long , probably 2 hrs would do it.....quick solution just by-pass the heater.

I would not count on getting it done that quickly if you have never done it before, but since I have been through this couple of times I know the ins-n-outs.(probably could knock one out in 30-45 mins)..The thing that had me stumped the 1st time was the hook on the far right in the vent that goes up into the cowl areal.

I hear you, usually a 2hr job takes me all weekend anyways!

Once you get the cables loose unplug the wire, get the hook loose the only thing holding it in is the 3 motor nuts under the hood...whole thing comes out for disassembly. which amounts to a hand full of spring clips & 4 screws..that is if your not restoring, just replacing the core.

I pulled the old one out, it only took about 25 minutes. I think that it would have been even faster if that one  :swear:  clip would have just listened a little better.  After reading all the other post on this I was scared to death that I was going to crack the housing removing the clips. I must admit that being able to read all the other post on this topic sure made my repair much easier, :clapping: thanks all. The fan works good, so I diden't need to bother with that.  Taking out the glove box mad it very easy. The new core diden't make it's arrival until about 8:00pm, so I will give it a go today. It should take about 35-45 minutes to reinstall tops.  Where is everyone getting their gasket for the housing?

Not sure what you are referring to, some foam replacement I cut from closed cell bulk I purchased the craft store, Hobby Lobby, there is a bead of caulk around the area of the
core that appears to be the same as rope caulk avail. at hardware stores.
