Anyone know about Panther 4-post lifts?
« on: June 28, 2007 - 09:56:15 PM »
I was at the Carlisle GM show last weekend (trying to get rid of a Chebbie), and Panther Lifts (www.pantherlifts.com) had a lift on site. People were using it to look at and inspect cars all day long. I talked with the reps, and was pretty impressed. It was the 7000# model for $1695, and that includes casters, jack tray, ramps, and drip trays (All the stuff you have to pay extra for on many other lifts. I asked about stability, and safety, and the rep walked over to it (while it had a $50k Camaro on it), and tried to shake it. It didn't budge. He invited me to do the same, which I did. The owners of the Camaro started to get a little excited, but hey, it was just a Camaro.

So anyway. I've always been told to stay away from lifts made in China, but this one seemed like a great deal. The reps said that they closely monitor the manufacturing process and make sure no corners are cut. Course they would never tell me otherwise.

I'm seriously thinking about getting one, and I was just wondering if anyone has any first hand experience, or has heard any horror stories about this particular company. I'm hoping they will be back for the Mopar show.

Personally I am not familar with that brand. But every now and then I hear another horror story that someone's lift came down. On the other hand it is an OSHA requirement that racks in the workplace be inspected daily. ....I think ,...BUYER BEWARE.  :sly:

I can't say either way.  The lift could be a good value.  After studying some info though it has me wondering.  From this:
One-Step Caster Kit
Easy to install
Fully movable with or without a vehicle
Turn lift sideways to park two vehicles underneath
VALUE: $199.00 for the set of 4

You show me where I can buy a set of 4 dollies to move a car for under $200.  I know they are not the same thing, but perhaps if they said the value was $399 it would seem better.

This site does seem to sell the lifts better: http://www.gregsmithequipment.com/default.asp

I bought mine from Greg Smith in INDY. The assembly isn't hard and did it alone in about 4-5 hours with the assistence of my forklift. Have a couple of friends help you though if you don't have access to a forklift. You will need a place to have it delivered as it arrives crated. If your close to Toledo your welcome to see mine and I'll give you a hand putting yours together.
I got the 2 traveling jacks so I can lift the car off the rails for brakes and casters to roll it around..

Is it the ProPark brand? I see that it says Direct Lift, but when I tried to look up Direct Lift, it took me to the ProPart site.

It's a ProPark from Greg Smith. Click on the link Doug posted and it will take you there. I've been happy with it after just one year. I'm careful and always check my stops when I raise and lower. When I raise the Cuda's I always walk around and make sure the stops have engaged before I go under.
The most important element in setting these is to have a level surface and to adjust the cables so each pulls at the same rate. If the cables are not pulling at the same rate it can bind. The instructions are pretty good and if your a car guy you won't have any problems. I got to tell you it's a lot easier to change oil and do other work.
My jack stands are pretty dusty!
